Cambium Networks Conference in Tirana, Albania

Cambium Networks continues its roadshow in Tirana in collaboration with regional distributors Ingram Micro Croatia and Aikom International. The program will showcase Cambium’s enterprise solutions, including professional Wi-Fi solutions, switches, cybersecurity devices, and a surveillance platform that covers all solutions through a single network and unified IT experience. These solutions are used in various applications such as schools, universities, hotels, camps, industrial plants, high-traffic tourist locations in cities, municipalities, stores, warehouses, and other locations.

The second part of the solution portfolio relates to broadband wireless access. It covers various frequency ranges and provides multi-gigabit throughput for connecting surveillance cameras in cities, municipalities, and other projects while connecting business and residential end users on behalf of telecom operators, border and intervention police, army, and other purposes.

Historic Munich building adds digital key-based access management

London, March 2024 – Munich’s Hofbräuhaus enjoys an iconic status, as both a heritage property and a spiritual home for lovers of German beer. “In this historic building is the world’s most famous tavern,” explains its Security Manager, Robert Graßl. “The whole world goes in and out. Security is very important.”

Bavarian Duke Wilhelm V commissioned Munich’s original Hofbräuhaus in 1589, initially as a brewery to supply the Wittelsbacher Hof. Moved at the end of the 19th century and severely damaged during World War II, it underwent reconstruction in 1958. It now attracts tourists and city locals, seating up to 3,000 guests indoors and a further 400 in the beer garden.

Although the building is an important heritage monument, it required 21st-century digital access to keep site users safe and streamline day-to-day operations. They wanted fast, secure access rights management for employees and service providers – including up to 100 waiters working each shift – within a unified system which could authorize access at both the Hofbräuhaus and their food production facility in Brunntal.

Of course, inobtrusive digital devices and low-impact installation were a necessity to ensure compliance with heritage preservation regulations.

Digital access for a famous heritage building

Many electronic access products and technologies are not appropriate for historic buildings. An eCLIQ key-based digital access solution is different: eCLIQ cylinders are compatible with the strict monument preservation requirements at the Hofbräuhaus. They have a flush fit, so don’t even appear to be part of an electronic locking system. With wireless installation at the doors, devices blend with the building interior.

“We can exchange a mechanical cylinder 1:1 with an eCLIQ cylinder without having to modify anything on the door or install cables,” confirms Miriem Hammoudi, Business Development Manager at ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik GmbH.

ASSA ABLOY fitted around 100 eCLIQ locking cylinders and supplied 340 eCLIQ programmable keys for Hofbräuhaus managers to issue to relevant staff and service contractors.

Easy operation for flexible, cost-efficient management

Every eCLIQ key has an integrated chip and is programmable individually for the keyholder. The versatility of eCLIQ is demonstrated when a key is lost: Access authorizations are removed rapidly – simply by reprogramming cylinders – ensuring security is maintained. The eCLIQ system also helps manage workflows for service providers such as cleaners: Their access is enabled on a time-limited basis. A standard battery inside each programmable electronic key powers the cylinder or padlock on insertion – and encrypts data transfer between cylinder, key and system – so no external power source or wiring is needed.

The Hofbräuhaus team manages their system via a flexible, scalable web-based platform, CLIQ Web Manager: “I can program keys from anywhere or also block them quickly if a key has been lost or if someone is no longer allowed to enter,” says Robert Graßl. “And I can install any cylinder in any door by adjusting the length. I don’t have to carry extra stock which is really cost effective.”

With the hosting solution chosen, access data is stored securely at ASSA ABLOY, accessible anytime and from any location, which is an ideal configuration for managing large systems or multiple locations. Their system is easy to expand anytime – future-proofing Hofbräuhaus access.

“The situation before the new master key system was installed was problematic,” says Robert Graßl. “Keys were distributed and nobody knew who held them. Now, everyone carries only one key programmed with details of where and when they can enter. It’s perfect.”

Motorola Solutions Appoints New Director to the Board

Motorola Solutions has appointed Nicole Anasenes to its board of directors. Anasenes brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in software and services, market development, acquisitions and business transformation.

She served on the boards of directors of Ansys from July 2018 until Dec. 2020 and Vmware, Inc. from April 2022 to Nov. 2023.

From old buildings in need of modernisation to energy-intensive office buildings, there is much to do in the building sector en route to greater climate neutrality. In Germany, this sector accounts for around 30 percent of CO2 emissions. For many years, however, the building sector has failed to reach the CO2 reduction targets set by the German government.

Around 2,200 exhibitors are ready to present their innovative technologies at Light + Building in Frankfurt am Main from 3 to 8 March 2024.

Over the coming six days, the spotlight at the world’s leading trade fair for lighting and building-services technology will be on solutions for greater sustainability. Around 2,200 exhibitors are showing modern lighting design, smart building-services technology, technologies for efficient energy management, the connection of PV installations, charging stations for electrical mobility and the electrical infrastructure. These innovations have the potential to save up many millions of tonnes of CO2 by 2030.

Light + Building is the international platform for the electrical industry and lighting designers, and attracts companies from all over the world to Frankfurt am Main. The level of internationality among the exhibitors has reached 77 percent. After Germany, the majority of exhibitors come from Italy, China, Türkiye, Spain, Poland, Austria, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France and Greece.

“It is fascinating to see how many innovations for our homes and buildings are coming onto the market. Everyone can expand their knowledge in personal discussions at Light + Building. In cooperation with its partners, the German Electro and Digital Industry Association (ZVEI) and the Federation of the German Electrical and Information Technology Installation Trades (ZVEH), Messe Frankfurt has set out the agenda for the lighting and building technology sectors with three top themes: ‘Connectivity’, ‘Sustainability’ and ‘Work + Living’. They are the content guidelines for the accompanying events during the show and include a variety of lectures, guided tours and award ceremonies to be held in the lighting area of the Design Plaza in Hall 3.1 (Stand B50). The Building Plaza in Hall 9.0 (Stand D60) focuses on building-services technology topics.

The Technology Forum will be the meeting place for an exchange of ideas and information between exhibitors and visitors against a backdrop of lectures and panel discussions focussing on electrification and digitalisation of the building sector. The ZVEH is also represented by the E-House in Hall 11.0 (Stand C07/D07). There, the spotlight is on ‘sustainable energy supply’ and ‘smart health’.

Convergint Appoints New CEO as Ken Lochiatto Steps Aside

Horizon3.ai Unveils Phishing Impact Testing

Addsecure Eco Initiative Reduces CO2 Emissions by 24,000 tons

In 2023, over 12,000 drivers from the company’s client base, joined the Addsecure Eco-Driving Challenge, a pan-European competition. It involved 75 companies, 140 teams, and around 8,200 heavy commercial trucks. Ahola Transport (FIN) earned the best eco-driving score in Q4, while Götene Kyltransporter (SE) achieved the greatest CO2 reduction.

The results of the Eco-Driving 2023 competition revealed that the voluntary challenge, based on an Eco-Driving Index, improved driving behaviour and proved to deliver major fuel savings.

When comparing the 2023 results with 2017 (when the challenge started), the calculations show that the competing companies reduced their total consumption by approximately 9.2 million litres of fuel on a yearly basis. This results in reduced CO2 emissions of approximately 24,400 tons and savings of about 13.9 million Euros.

To make the competition extra exciting, the 75 competing companies are divided into 6 different groups based on country (SE, NO, FI, DK, DE, FR) and in one group for bus operators in Europe. During the competition Addsecure has continuously updated a performance chart to keep all stakeholders informed about the competition’s developments. On the performance chart, the leaders in three categories are presented

  • Largest CO2-savings in absolute terms (“AddSecure Eco-Momentum”)
  • Best eco-driving average (based on 6 driving parameters)
  • Best improvement of eco-driving index
