ONVIF has just released the Release Candidate of its new Profile V standard for cloud-based video surveillance systems, marking a major step toward greater interoperability in cloud security solutions. The new profile will enable end users, system integrators, and manufacturers to build cloud video systems based on open standards, without being tied to a single vendor or proprietary platform. This means that ONVIF-conformant products from different manufacturers will be able to work together seamlessly and be replaced without redesigning the entire system.

According to ONVIF, Profile V extends the interoperability principles that transformed IP video surveillance two decades ago into the cloud environment. The draft specification is now available to ONVIF member companies, allowing them to begin developing and testing conformant products ahead of the final standard, which is expected to be published in approximately six months. During this period, manufacturers will be able to verify interoperability using ONVIF’s testing tool and contribute to refining the specification before its official release.

Once finalized, Profile V is expected to give users greater freedom in choosing cameras, storage, and cloud platforms while accelerating the development of an open cloud video ecosystem.

A new analysis by Memoori shows that Hikvision recorded flat revenue growth in 2025 while increasing its net profit by 18.5%. According to the research, the company is placing greater emphasis on improving operational efficiency rather than pursuing revenue growth at any cost. Analysts note that Hikvision’s business mix has changed significantly, with the share of revenue generated in China declining from around 70% in 2022 to 42% in 2025.

At the same time, the company continues its transformation from a video surveillance manufacturer into an AIoT company, focusing on artificial intelligence and Internet of Things solutions. Memoori reports that Hikvision is forecasting high single-digit revenue growth and double-digit profit growth for 2026. The analysis concludes that achieving these targets will depend on the company’s ability to navigate challenges such as international sanctions, declining government contracts, and intensifying global competition.

Dormakaba has completed the acquisition of Style Group, one of the United Kingdom’s leading distributors of movable wall systems. The acquisition forms part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its presence in one of Europe’s largest movable wall markets. Style will become part of Dormakaba’s Global Movable Walls business while retaining its brand, organisational structure, and approximately 100 employees. The two companies have enjoyed a long-standing partnership, with Style serving as the exclusive UK distributor of Skyfold and Dorma Hüppe products.

“This transaction builds on our long-standing relationship with Style and will enable us to further expand our movable wall business through its extensive network of clients and architects,” said Christian Baur, CTO and President of Key & Wall Solutions and OEM at Dormakaba. The acquisition will provide Dormakaba with direct access to an established customer base and network of architects whose solutions are deployed in projects ranging from universities and airports to major sports venues. Dormakaba CEO Till Reuter said the acquisition will support the company’s continued growth in the UK by combining complementary strengths in sales, service, and customer access.

Pelco’s open architecture enables its cameras to integrate seamlessly with leading Video Management Systems (VMS), the company announced on Pelco’s website. According to the company, its cameras are compatible with all ONVIF-conformant VMS solutions, including Genetec, Milestone Systems, Salient Systems, and SecuriThings. Integrations with the Milestone and Genetec platforms have also been verified, ensuring reliable performance and simplified security system management.

All Pelco cameras support ONVIF Profile S and Profile T, while models with edge storage also support Profile G, and selected devices are compliant with Profile M for advanced analytics configuration and metadata management. Thanks to this open architecture, users can more easily integrate cameras into existing infrastructures while improving security operations with lower implementation costs and reduced deployment time. The company adds that this approach provides greater flexibility when selecting a VMS platform and simplifies future expansion of security systems.

Hytera has announced that its Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) solutions provided uninterrupted communications during L’Étape Greece 2026, a cycling race held along the challenging mountainous routes of the Peloponnese. The project was delivered by Greek communications provider Cobra Center, which deployed an LTE-based communication system for race organizers, course marshals, and emergency response teams across the entire course.

The 150-kilometre route passed through forest trails, steep climbs, and remote areas where conventional communication systems often experience coverage limitations. To ensure reliable connectivity, Hytera’s PNC360 and MNC360 PoC radios were deployed, providing stable two-way communications over the nationwide LTE network. According to the company, the solution achieved full coverage of the entire race route without any unplanned technical interruptions, while operational and emergency information was exchanged in real time.

Following the successful implementation of the project, Cobra Center plans to expand the deployment of Hytera’s LTE and PoC solutions to other major sporting and commercial events across Greece. The company believes that unified cellular PoC communications could become the standard logistics and coordination solution for large-scale events that require reliable communications over long distances and in demanding environments.

As of 7 July, all newly registered passenger cars and vans in the European Union must be equipped with additional safety systems under the revised General Safety Regulation. The mandatory features include advanced emergency braking capable of detecting pedestrians and cyclists, a driver distraction warning system, improved driver visibility, stricter requirements for worn tyres, and larger areas of safety glass to better protect pedestrians in the event of a collision. The feature attracting the most attention is the driver monitoring system, which uses an infrared camera pointed at the driver’s face to analyse eye movements, blinking, gaze direction, and signs of fatigue. The aim of the technology is to warn drivers when they become distracted or drowsy, helping to reduce the number of road accidents. The new rules do not apply to vehicles already on the road, but only to passenger cars and vans registered for the first time after the regulation came into force. Vehicles manufactured without the required equipment can no longer be legally registered within the European Union. The EU says the measures are part of its broader strategy to reduce road fatalities, noting that alcohol and driver distraction remain among the leading causes of fatal traffic accidents.

However, some members of the public have raised concerns about privacy, as the camera continuously monitors the driver’s behaviour, with fears that it could eventually be integrated with additional monitoring technologies.
