IDIS Europe further strengthens UK operations with key sales appointments

IDIS has further strengthened its UK sales operations with two key appointments: Carl Scarrott has joined the company as Regional Sales Manager for the south region, and Amy Brown has taken up the role of Regional Sales Manager for the north. These latest appointments follow the recent announcement of Brian Lee as the new Managing Director of IDIS Europe.

IDIS, which is the largest in-country manufacturer of trusted South Korean video tech, is investing in its UK sales and customer service operations as it drives take-up of its advanced, user-focused AI video surveillance technology, prioritising system performance and value.

Amy Brown will be a familiar face to customers in the north, having held previous roles in both sales and account management, including with leading security providers Stanley Security and Securitas. Carl Scarrot also brings a wealth of industry expertise and experience to his new role from various roles in project management, technical support, and business development with UK security distribution companies, including Norbain and, most recently, Oprema.

Ajax Systems Unveils 55 New Devices and Marks a Major Technological Leap at the Seventh Ajax Special Event

On November 21, 2025, Ajax Systems held its seventh Ajax Special Event, where the company, under the slogan “Dare to be first”, introduced 55 new devices and showcased several breakthrough innovations. The event took place across 35 countries, with a main presentation in Frankfurt that brought together security professionals from around the world and attracted a massive online audience. Ajax reported a total of 93 products featured during the event, supported by 13 speakers and simultaneous translation into 26 languages across 94 satellite events. The biggest highlight was the debut of the world’s first wireless Grade 3 intrusion protection solution, accompanied by the Superior MegaHub capable of managing up to 999 devices.

The company also introduced a new generation of wireless Grade 3 detectors, keypads, sirens, and the Superior Hub G3 control panel, confirming that the devices will be available for order by late 2025. Ajax emphasized its Superior Jeweller radio technology, which establishes new industry standards for range, stability, and sabotage resistance. In the video surveillance segment, Ajax launched two product lines — Baseline and Superior — featuring motorized HLVF cameras, hybrid illumination, enhanced CMOS sensors, and new NVRs supporting up to 32 channels and 24 TB of storage per drive. The newly unveiled Superior NVRs, the first Ajax recorders with built-in AI, enable advanced analytics and can share intelligence with compatible third-party cameras.

Ajax also announced the Superior Hub Hybrid 2, which doubles the capacity of its predecessor and allows PRO installers to scale projects from medium-sized facilities to large commercial sites. The Baseline portfolio was expanded with two outdoor curtain-type detectors, including the CurtainCam Outdoor HighMount with an integrated photo camera for alarm verification. The Hub BP Jeweller received a major upgrade, now offering up to four years of operation on a single battery, making it ideal for remote sites without reliable power. Ajax Services were further enhanced, enabling installers to activate subscriptions via card payments directly through the PRO app, with global availability expanding throughout the year.

Finally, the company introduced EN54 Line, a fully wireless commercial fire detection system certified under EN 54, designed for rapid installation and seamless remote management. Ajax Systems stated that these innovations reaffirm its dedication to challenging industry conventions and building a unified ecosystem that combines video surveillance, high-security intrusion protection, commercial and residential fire safety, and building automation.

According to the company, the goal is to deliver scalable, standards-compliant solutions that provide long-term value for professional installers and end users worldwide.

Amazon blames Iran for combining cyber espionage with physical attacks

Amazon has released details on two cases in which Iranian threat actors combined digital espionage with physical attacks, a practice the company refers to as “cyber-enabled kinetic targeting.” The first case involves the group Imperial Kitten (also known as Tortoiseshell), linked to Iran’s IRGC, which over a two-year period progressed from cyber reconnaissance to a physical strike. According to Amazon, the group compromised a ship’s AIS system in December 2021 and, by August 2022, had gained access to additional maritime platforms and onboard CCTV cameras to collect real-time visual intelligence. In January 2024, they searched AIS location data for a specific vessel, which just days later, on February 1, became the target of a Houthi missile attack. Amazon says the link between the cyber reconnaissance and the subsequent strike is “unmistakable,” even though the attack itself was unsuccessful.

The second case concerns MuddyWater, a group tied to Iran’s MOIS, which in May 2025 prepared a server for cyber operations and, by June 17, used the same infrastructure to access a compromised CCTV server streaming live footage from Jerusalem. Researchers believe the footage was used to support the planning of a June 23 missile attack, after which Israeli authorities warned citizens to immediately disconnect internet-exposed cameras. Amazon stresses that existing terms such as “cyber-kinetic operations” or “hybrid warfare” lack precision, and proposes a new definition for campaigns where cyber activities directly support physical strikes. The company warns that this type of operation will become increasingly common as nation-states recognize the strategic advantage of combining digital reconnaissance with kinetic attacks.

Amazon urges companies to adjust their security strategies and expand threat models, noting that even entities that previously considered themselves uninteresting to attackers may now be targeted for tactical intelligence collection.

Google Cloud and Turkey’s Turkcell Invest $3 Billion in Next-Generation IT Infrastructure

Turkey is set to receive one of its largest technology investments to date: Google Cloud and Turkcell are jointly investing a total of $3 billion. Of that amount, Google is contributing $2 billion, while Turkcell is investing an additional $1 billion. The major investment was announced at the Google Cloud Day Turkey conference, where it was confirmed that the partnership includes the establishment of a new Google Cloud region in the country. The new region will provide Turkey with hyperscale computing power, lower latency and strong cyber resilience, fully aligned with national regulatory requirements. Deployment is planned for the 2028–2029 period.

The project is expected to significantly strengthen Turkey’s capabilities in data processing, artificial intelligence and advanced digital services, helping position the country as a regional hub for cloud infrastructure. The investment comes at a time of rapid global growth in AI and cloud spending, while Turkey modernizes its own AI strategy and expands its data ecosystem.

The new cloud region will give companies, startups and public institutions access to advanced Google Cloud solutions, accelerating digital transformation across key industries. Planned expansion of data centers and high-performance computing infrastructure will further support the development of domestic AI projects, secure data storage and the strengthening of the country’s digital sovereignty.

The plug-and-play systems are manufactured and tested off-site, reducing construction risks and enabling significantly faster commissioning. The optimized design can lower CAPEX by up to 20% and cut carbon emissions by up to 27% by using less concrete and maximizing available floor space. The partnership combines Siemens’ expertise in electrical power distribution and engineering with Delta’s high-efficiency UPS systems, batteries, and advanced thermal management technologies designed for high-density AI workloads.

As digital demand continues to surge, data centers face mounting pressure from rising costs, tight timelines, and increasingly stringent sustainability requirements. The Siemens-Delta prefabricated power solutions help operators overcome these challenges and gain a strategic advantage in the global data center market. According to both companies, integrated SKID and eHouse modules provide standardized, scalable, and highly reliable power infrastructure for hyperscale and colocation operators.

Dubai Launches “Scan Smart” Campaign to Combat QR Code Fraud

The Dubai Electronic Security Center (DESC) launched the “Scan Smart” campaign, which took place from 24 to 30 October as part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, with the goal of raising public awareness about QR code–related risks. As QR codes become increasingly common in restaurants, hotels, shops, events, and other public spaces, the risk of tampering or malicious replacement continues to grow. In the first half of 2025 alone, more than 4.2 million global attempts to forge QR codes were recorded, underscoring the urgent need for public education. Through the initiative, DESC aimed to empower citizens and businesses to recognize legitimate codes, avoid compromised ones, and report suspicious activity.

DESC Chief Executive H.E. Yousuf AlShaibani stated that the campaign reflects the center’s commitment to building a safer digital environment for Dubai’s residents and visitors. As part of the campaign, DESC introduced interactive kiosks and an educational microsite, along with RZAM — a free browser extension that detects risky websites triggered after scanning QR codes.

Dozens of F&B venues across the city participated as “Scan Smart Partners,” displaying branded materials and offering visitors free coffee and exclusive discounts. These partners helped create everyday “micro hubs” of digital awareness, where the public could learn about safe QR scanning in a relaxed environment. DESC encouraged users to always verify QR codes before scanning and to report any suspicious attempts, strengthening community cyber resilience and supporting the wider vision of a safer digital ecosystem in the UAE.
