Michigan Police Deploy Technology to Improve Response Time

With the common goal of improving security and emergency response in the event of a critical incident, community members in Livingston County have deployed technology that turns their standard security cameras into a powerful resource for 911 Emergency Communications Center telecommunicators (911 professionals).

“It’s all about response time: The key to saving lives, curtailing damage and rapidly resolving an emergency of any kind–whether it’s a natural disaster, fire, mass shooting or other criminal activity–is getting accurate information to first responders so they can take quick, decisive action,” said Mike Murphy, Livingston County Sheriff.

While security cameras are ubiquitous at schools and businesses, 911 telecommunicators typically cannot access them in an emergency. Eagle Eye 911 Camera Sharing changes that by giving telecommunicators instant access to live video from one or multiple security cameras when a 911-triggered emergency occurs, empowering them to quickly deliver critical incident information to first responders through a partnership with Rapid SOS.

Telecommunicators generally rely on verbal information from 911 callers. Now, with Camera Sharing, the telecommunicator can also have “eyes on the scene” and, within seconds, gather an immense amount of information.

“Camera Sharing gives us a real-time view of the situation at hand as it’s unfolding,” said Kecia Williams, 911 Director, Livingston County 911 Central Dispatch. “Lots of times it takes a while to attain pertinent information from a 911 caller because they’re distraught or not clear. With Camera Sharing, we can instantly see for ourselves what’s going on, and we can get this information to the fire department, EMS or law enforcement much quicker.”

Livingston County is the first county in Michigan to demo the new technology at the Livingston Educational Service Agency in Howell, an organisation that works with local school districts to provide educational services and support to 26,000 students throughout the county.

“I am impressed with the Camera Sharing technology and can see the potential for improving response times by first responders to critical events in our community,” said Michael Hubert, Superintendent of Livingston Educational Service Agency.

Dean Drako, CEO of Eagle Eye Networks said, “Livingston County is a prime example of a growing trend we’re seeing in the U.S. where entire communities — schools, businesses, public safety officials and community leaders — are working together to ensure they are prepared as possible for emergency situations.”

Building Technologies Trade Fairs With a New Forward-Looking Focus

The building sector is facing many major challenges: rising construction costs and a shortage of skilled workers are colliding with an urgent need for new housing. Simultaneously, the energy and heating transition, not to mention the rapid pace of digitalisation, are creating new opportunities for a sustainable future. Messe Frankfurt has responded to the dynamic challenges in the market with a newly formed management team for its Building Technologies division.

Johannes Möller, who was previously responsible for Light + Building, has been appointed Group Show Director, Building Technologies Shows, with immediate effect. Over the last four years, a really challenging time, he successfully managed the world’s leading trade fair for lighting and building-servieces technology while simultaneously expanding its international network. Against this background, he has been responsible for the management and strategic orientation of the Light + Building, ISH and Intersec brands since August 2024.

He continues to report to Iris Jeglitza-Moshage, Senior Vice President Technology. She assumed responsibility for the division 14 years ago and is also a member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt. Möller’s promotion means she will now be able to focus more on her managerial duties, while her many years of expertise will ensure the necessary continuity. “By taking this step, we have not only settled the succession for three of our most important brands at an early stage but also reinforced the managerial resources needed for our Building Technologies Industry Cluster,” explains Iris Jeglitza-Moshage.

Furthermore, she explains, “We are delighted that we have been able to find a successor within the company, especially because Johannes Möller has made an important contribution to the success of our international portfolio of Building Technology trade fairs over recent years. Now, he will be able to concentrate fully on the strategic growth of these brands in both Germany and abroad.”

Johannes Möller began his career in the trade-fair industry as a graduate exhibition, congress and event manager in the sales department of Prolight + Sound. He then spent four years as the personal assistant to the CEO of Messe Frankfurt before assuming responsibility as Director of Brand Management and Development, Technology, in 2017. After managing Light + Building, taking on overall responsibility for the Technology division is the next logical step and represents the continuation of his previous successes.

ISH will remain under the experienced management of Stefan Seitz. For the past twelve years, he and his team have been planning and organising the world’s leading trade fair for HVAC and water every two years. The management team for the Building Technologies Shows Group also includes Dominique Ewert, who is responsible for the company’s marketing-communication activities in the field of technical trade fairs.

From 1 October 2024, Steffen Larbig will be responsible for the development of Light + Building. Commenting on the new member of the management team at Messe Frankfurt, Ms Jeglitza-Moshage says, “Mr Larbig brings with him extensive international sales expertise, experience in key account management and a wealth of ideas for the future direction of Light + Building.” The next chapter in the successful development of the brand will be written in close collaboration with the highly experienced Light + Building team.

German State Deploys Body Worn Cameras to Police

Motorola has signed a framework agreement with the Thuringian Ministry of the Interior to supply more than 1,200 VB400 body cameras to the police forces in Thuringia. The new devices will be used by police forces across the state to help front-line teams de-escalate potentially dangerous situations, support accountability and increase officer and public safety.

Thuringia’s Minister of the Interior, Georg Maier, handed over the first cameras to police officers from the Erfurt State Police Inspectorate at the start of the formal roll out this week.

“These body cameras won’t make the work of our police force any easier, but they will make it safer,” said Maier. “Not only do body cameras deter dangerous behavior, but video evidence helps to provide officials and communities with a more complete understanding of events.”

The cameras will be rolled out alongside Videomanager evidence management software, enabling officers to easily upload and securely store and manage video footage, organised by time, date and location as part of the force’s existing daily workflows.

The ministry of Thuringia awarded the contract to Motorola Solutions following a rigorous testing and competitive process to comply with high quality and regulatory requirements. The decision for the VB400 was based on performance, voice quality and the ability to customise pre- and post-recording functionality to help ensure incidents are captured from the start.

Security Essen: City of Essen presents disaster control requirements plan

Trade visitors benefit from exclusive insights and expert knowledge

What to do if a disaster suddenly strikes? Whether it is flooding, a major fire or a power cut – every second counts in an emergency. Essen was one of the first cities in Germany to prepare for such scenarios with a disaster protection plan. Trade visitors to Security Essen will find out what these plans and measures look like on 20 September 2024, when the organisers will present their concept live at the security fair. “With this, we provide a unique insight into the strategies and technologies that have been developed in Essen to ensure the best possible security for our citizens,” says Christian Kromberg, Councillor for Law, Public Safety and Order of the City of Essen.

The City of Essen’s emergency response plan is a comprehensive concept designed to significantly improve the preparation for and management of crisis situations. In close cooperation, the city administration, emergency services and other partners have analysed various risks and defined specific measures in order to be able to respond effectively to different scenarios in the event of an emergency. These include, for example, severe weather events, terrorist attacks, heat waves or power failures. At Security Essen, those responsible will explain, among other things, what requirements exist here, how they are coordinated and what processes are involved in preparation, procurement and modernisation.

Exclusive added value for visitors of Security Essen

In Germany, such a detailed plan, which integrates both preventive and reactive measures for a wide range of areas and players, is hardly widespread to date. The presentation at Security Essen therefore offers real added value for trade visitors. Experts from the security industry and representatives of authorities and organisations can find out first-hand about the latest developments in disaster protection and gain exclusive insights. The organisers from the City of Essen will be on standby to explain the individual measures and strategies and answer questions. Julia Jacob, Project Manager of Security Essen: ”The presentation of the disaster protection requirements plan of the City of Essen at Security Essen 2024 underlines the importance of security technologies and strategies for the protection of our society. We are delighted to offer our trade visitors the opportunity to exchange ideas directly with experts and learn about the latest approaches in disaster prevention.”

The presentation of the disaster protection requirements plan will take place on Friday, 20 September, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the security experts forum in exhibition hall 6 and will be interpreted into English. Admission is free of charge for trade fair visitors.
