ISE 2022 PREVIEW & OVERVIEW

General overview for Media to take relevant highlights for their ISE Preview issues…

BARCELONA, 24 MARCH 2022:

It’s just six weeks until ISE 2022 opens its doors for the first time in Barcelona, and with seven conferences, around 800 exhibitors across six Technology Zones and a whole host of lounges, experiences and showfloor features, it’s shaping up to be an engaging, informative and eye-opening week at the Fira Barcelona, Gran Via.

Visitors will find it particularly easy to navigate the showfloor this year, thanks to the dedicated Technology Zones that group together exhibitors in major technology areas. While Halls 3 and 5 contain ISE’s flagship exhibitors, plus companies whose multi-technology offerings do not fall easily into a single Technology Zone, elsewhere you’ll find Audio and Lighting & Staging in Hall 7, Digital Signage & DooH in Hall 6, and Residential & Smart Building along with Unified Communications & Education Technology in Hall 2.

  • NEW: Unified Comms & Education Technology (Hall 2) – newly combined zones
  • NEW: Residential & Smart Building (Hall 2) – newly combined zones
  • Multi-Technology Zone (Halls 3 and 5)
  • Digital Signage & DooH (Hall 6)
  • Audio (Hall 7)

Conference Programme

This year’s conference programme covers a whole host of hot topics across multiple verticals, starting with the full day Smart Building Conference on 9 May, the day before ISE opens its doors. With a focus on smart, safe and sustainable building technologies, SBC will welcome speakers including Erik Ubels, Owner, Metisreal, Kathy Farrington, Global Lead for Digital Buildings Program (Bos) And IOT Team Manager, Google, and Matthew Marson, UK Sector Director – Manufacturing + Technology, Arcadis.

The Control Rooms Summit will kick off the content programme on 10 May. This half-day event will explore the way control rooms are changing and how the community must work together to deliver appropriate and outstanding new models. It will be followed by the first standalone Smart Workplace Summit, which will delve into the innovations reshaping the workplace.

Digital Signage Summit will return on 11 May with a packed agenda covering green signage, industry consolidation, best practice and the latest tech trends. Speakers include Kai Hendrik Müller from Porsche, Valentina Candeloro, Director International Marketing, Mood Media, and Judith Palmés Bosch, Managing Director/Business Consulting/Customers and Services, Accenture.

On the afternoon of 11 May, the Digital Learning Summit will look at digital transformation within higher education. Zoom will give an inside view of its success and insights into its product roadmap as it positions itself at the heart of the learning ecosystem. There will also be great success stories of universities developing creative solutions to deliver hybrid learning at scale.

Taking place on the morning of 12 May, the first Superyacht Technology Summit will host inspiring global technology speakers and thought leaders discussing the integration process, immersive hands-on demos and workshops, and Tech Talks explaining how to succeed in the industry and highlighting how blue-chip companies can work successfully with superyacht R&D teams.

At the Live Events Summit, experts from the world of pro audio, top manufacturers and professionals at the coalface of the live events industry will be sharing their expertise on topics including immersive audio, remote mixing and networking.

Association Activities

In addition to these conferences, AVIXA and CEDIA will also be hosting extensive education programmes and special events.

CEDIA’s comprehensive offering will be delivered by subject matter experts from across the globe and also includes the opportunity to take CEDIA training in Spanish along with a wide range of opportunities to learn new skills. Sessions begin on the morning of 10 May with a Future Technologies Update led by Rich Green. Other topics up for discussion include design documentation, power and energy storage, WiFi6 and WiFi 6E, and video technologies. CEDIA will also host a number of more business-focused sessions, including 20 Ways to Increase Profits, A Project Manager’s Guide to the Financial Stuff, and Building your Business with Training.

AVIXA will kick off its ISE offering on 9 May with a regional meetup for the French AV community. It will stage similar events throughout the show for Italian and German attendees.

On 11 May, the AVIXA Women’s Council will host a Shared Experiences Panel in the Projection Dome in Hall 5. Panellists will discuss practical ways to inspire and empower women in AV and look at what companies are doing to tackle gender imbalance and promote and encourage women in the workplace.

The following day will see two panel discussions organised by AVIXA’s Diversity Council taking place on the Conference Stage in Hall 5. First up is Designing for Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility, which will look at equity in leadership and building a culture of inclusion, the benefits of diversity and how technology helps diversity efforts.

This will be followed by Intersectionality and AV/IT/AI. Intersectionality is the acknowledgement that everyone has their own unique experiences of discrimination and oppression and we must consider everything and anything that can marginalise people. This session will discuss how to create safe spaces and build communities, while establishing paths and opportunities for individual and organisational growth.

AVIXA is also organising the AV Experience Zone, also in Hall 5. Featuring Spanish-language content showcasing cutting-edge AV solutions and the latest trends within the industry, different sessions will be held for targeted vertical market audiences, professional technicians and students.

Also focusing on students, AV Career Day returns to ISE on 11 May. Organised by AVIXA, CEDIA and ISE, this year’s event will see participants come together in the Projection Dome to enjoy panel sessions and presentations before heading out on guided showfloor tours and finishing with networking drinks.

Show features and experiences

Also sure to impress visitors on each day of the show, the ISE Sound Xperience will take place at the Eventos Filmax Cinema Gran Via complex, a few hundred metres away from Hall 5. The cinema will host a number of uniquely configured audio spaces allowing leading audio brands, including Martin Audio, L-Acoustics and Adamson, to present a realistic representation of their latest technologies. Equipped with the latest Dolby digital cinema surround sound processors and high-end Barco projectors, the rooms range from in size from large-scale spaces to more intimate venues.

For those interested in the worlds of audio and live events, the Live Events Arena in Hall 7 has been specially created to augment the visitor experience. As well as the latest solutions for the sector, the arena stage will host 15-minute product demonstrations to provide a more detailed understanding of the latest technologies. A dedicated networking space will also be available.

Visitors looking to unearth new technology and identify opportunities for collaboration should head to the Discovery Zone in Congress Square. Featuring exhibitors including DronePixel by Ehang, Convergent Design, StreamIt, Imago, PlaceOS and more, the Discovery Zone will host everything from young ground-breaking companies to prestigious PLCs. Congress Square will also be the location of pavilions organised by Barcelona City Council and the government of Catalonia, hosting local and regional exhibitors.

Making its debut in Hall 6 at ISE 2022 will be the Retail Experience/Digital Signage Avenue. This multi-application show floor feature will bring together and present a selection of the world’s leading digital signage and DooH technologies. Visitors will be able to experience state-of-the art digital signage in action and find out how it is being used extensively for advertising and information delivery.

Lounges

A number of lounges will be situated throughout the show. In Hall 2, ISE will host a dedicated Influencer Lounge where social media influencers will interact with exhibitors and create and post show-related content. Facilities will include a podcast studio, photobooth, meeting areas and a live Twitter wall.

Also new for this year, Women in Live Music (WILM) will host a lounge in Hall 7 as part of an ISE-supported initiative to encourage more women to visit the show and to join the AV industry. WILM will be joined by representatives from Women in Lighting.  Malle Kaas, founder and CEO of WILM, says: “We hope to encourage more women to come to the show by offering them a ‘safe space’ where they can hang out and connect with other women. But I also hope that both exhibitors and male guests will visit the lounge and learn more about the industry from a woman’s perspective.”

Awards and events

ISE attendees will also be able to explore IOT Solutions World Congress (IOTSWC), the largest international event devoted to industry transformation through disruptive technologies, which runs from 10-12 May at the Fira. The sixth edition of IOTSWC will take place under the theme Game-changing technologies for industry transformation and the two events will provide a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the crossroads between different sets of disruptive technologies.

Visitors can access the IOTSWC exhibition area at no extra cost, while those registered to any of the ISE conferences will benefit from a 50% discount on the IOTSWC congress programme – and vice versa.

The ISE Open Innovation Challenge, hosted by ACCIÓ (the Catalonian Agency for Business Competitiveness) and Enterprise Europe Network, will take place in the Catalonia Pavilion throughout the show, with eight corporations looking for new technologies and solutions partners to help solve a range of business issues. The event features challenges across seven categories: live events; broadcast and content creation; residential and smart building; hotels and hospitality; digital signage & digital out-of-home media; unified communications & education technology; and audio.

Technology providers that have the potential to help solve these challenges can register to participate in the event and arrange physical or online meetings with the companies involved. On-site corporate challenges will take place between 10:00 and 12:30 and between 13:00 and 15:00 each day of the show.

And, of course, no ISE would be complete without the Stand Design Awards. Managed solely by EXHIBITOR magazine, an award-winning print and online magazine featuring best practices for trade show marketing, the awards acknowledge ISE exhibitors and their stand-design efforts. Every stand on the ISE show floor is automatically entered into the free competition and judged on site during ISE 2022 by world-renowned designers and marketers. The winners will be revealed at the Stand Design Awards Ceremony, which takes place at 16:30 on Thursday 12 May on the Live Events Stage in Hall 7.

Make sure you are following ISE on twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook and use the hashtag #ISE2022 for up-to-the-minute news, event highlights and exciting announcements.

ISE announces three-month postponement

After consultation with the ISE exhibitor and visitor community and in the light of the increasing impact of the Omicron variant in Spain, Integrated Systems Events announces that ISE 2022, scheduled for 1-4 February, has been postponed and will now take place on 10-13 May 2022 at the Fira de Barcelona Gran Vía.

Mike Blackman, Managing Director of Integrated Systems Events, said today: “We’ve been closely monitoring the conditions in Europe and have been working hard on your behalf to balance health and safety concerns with the need for commerce and in-person interaction. It’s been a challenging time for so many over the past two years, and whilst we cannot wait to meet up with everyone at ISE 2022, listening to our exhibitors, owners and stakeholders, we have agreed the best course of action is to postpone the show edition for three months.

David Labuskes, CEO, AVIXA commented: “While balancing the commitment to both commerce and gathering has been difficult in these uncertain times, we believe the postponement of the ISE show until May does just that. Our community hungers for the opportunity to reconvene in 2022. This schedule makes that all the more possible for all of us. Beginning with ISE, we are looking forward to the summer of AV where we will have the opportunity to come together at InfoComm in June and InfoComm Beijing in July – it could not be a better way to gather and reinforce the opportunities and success for our industry.”

We look forward to making this event a success and would like to thank our stakeholders – exhibitors, sponsors, visitors, media partners, contractors, and the team at FIRA Barcelona – for continuing to support us through this difficult and ever-changing situation.

Integrated Systems Europe, ISE 2022, will take place at the Fira de Barcelona Gran Vía on 10-13 May 2022. The ISE Conference programme runs from Monday 9 May through to Friday 13 May 2022. For more information, please visit www.iseurope.org.

Fiera Milano: More than 45,000 Visitors at Made Expo, Sicurezza and Smart Building Expo

Successful synergy between the fairs, for the first time at the same time. More than 700 companies took part in this event dedicated to the building industry

Milan, 26 November 2021. Technology, sustainability, innovation in building materials, cyber security, artificial intelligence, digitalisation: these are the drivers of the 2021 edition of MADE expo, SICUREZZA and SMART BUILDING EXPO that attracted 45,516 professional visitors.

The three events, held at the same time for the first time, gave an all-round view of materials, technologies and regulations for the building and urban environment with over 700 companies present.

SICUREZZA and SMART BUILDING EXPO showcased the best in security, fire prevention and systems solutions that make buildings and cities smart. Artificial intelligence, deep learning, integration between technologies that become components of highly advanced platforms for the management of the home and the entire building, benches that are transformed into tools for recharging bicycles and electric scooters, but also in reception and protection areas, where video surveillance and sound systems allow immediate contact with the police in the event of danger: on show were the results of the research and development of a sector that in the last two years has never stopped, but has effectively contributed to the return to the new normality.

On the other hand, MADE expo was the right showcase for presenting highly innovative construction products to the trade. One of the most innovative, and with a strong sustainability component, are bonds capable of trapping pollutants and purifying the air through a photosynthesis process similar to that of plants. In addition, sound-absorbing and soundproofing panels made entirely of 100% recyclable plastic. Then there is also room for technological innovation thanks to structures with anti-seismic properties able to absorb the oscillations of buildings in the event of an earthquake.

“These simultaneous events all had a common denominator: the positive response from the public and companies” says Luca Palermo, CEO and General Manager of Fiera Milano. “Exhibiting companies reported that visitors to the three events were of a high quality. The presence of international visitors was also significant, with 94 countries represented during the course of the exhibition. Lastly, the simultaneous nature of the fairs was also a success. The objective of working as a team, exploiting potential synergies in the supply chain and in content, was largely achieved. We live in an era of increasing interconnection between sectors and trade fairs must increasingly play the role of an accelerator of business opportunities also by fostering these connections”.

Connections that developed mainly through the rich schedule of events. More than 150 training meetings have been held in recent days: from the sustainability of renovation work to cyber security, passing through professional certification, regulations, the evolution of the smart city and topics related to incentives, super bonuses and concessions. All the events were a confirmation of the fair’s role as a business opportunity, but also as a training hub capable of interpreting the evolution of the market.

The next events, which will always be held at the same time, will be held at Fiera Milano from 15 to 17 November 2023 for SICUREZZA and SMART BUILDING EXPO and from 15 to 18 November 2023 for MADE expo.

A regular highlight of ISE, Crestron has exhibited at every single edition since the show’s launch in 2004 and is a key booth to visit in the Multi-Technology Zone. Brad Hintze, Executive VP, Marketing of Crestron comments: “ISE continues to be a vital connection point for our industry across the residential and commercial spaces. We are eagerly anticipating this year’s show as a platform to showcase the many award-winning and category-defining solutions that have been released since the last time we were all together in person. Crestron is deeply committed to dealer success, and we look forward to the conversations and the opportunity to develop new business at ISE 2022.”

TRAINING AND INFORMATION AT SMART BUILDING EXPO 2021: INSIGHTS, OUTLOOKS, PROFESSIONALS SKILLS

At Fiera Milano from November 22nd to 24th, an extensive programme of events featuring highly skilled partners. Trends, regulatory and technology overviews and expert insights: a wide range on offer to both train and provide market operators with concrete tools and answers.

Milan, 4 November 2021 – SMART BUILDING EXPO, the home and building automation and technological integration event organised by Fiera Milano and Pentastudio, at Fiera Milano from the 22nd to the 24th of November, is gearing up to offer unprecedented training opportunities.

Broadband, digitalisation, a growing focus sustainability, saving energy and TV switch-off. These are just some of the major changes that are revolutionising the market and creating new development opportunities. This is the context in which the training is offered, organised by working in close collaboration with key industry players and by identifying leading partners to play key roles in high-level events at the expo, many of which will provide installers, designers, engineers and experts with training credits.

SMART BUILDING REPORT:

THE POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF MILAN PRESENTS NEW DATA

Organised in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Milan’s Smart Building Observatory and specialist publisher Nii progetti, the Smart Building Report: figures and market trends workshop will be held on the morning of the 22nd of November and will be the exhibition’s opening event. Based on research conducted by the Polytechnic’s Energy Strategy Group as well as the construction market annual survey conducted by Nii progetti, an up-to-date and unpublished snapshot of the smart building market in Italy will be revealed, featuring, for the first time ever, a specific in-depth study, which will be discussed by the main industry stakeholders in a talk.

MILAN SMART BUILDING CONFERENCE: INNOVATION AT ITS CORE

After the first edition’s success, the Milano Smart Building Conference is back on for the SMART BUILDING EXPO. A day and a half, on the 23rd and 24th of November, focused on urban resilience technologies and services.

Organised by Smart Building Italia in collaboration with the Smart Buildings Alliance for smart cities, the first session, Building vs City, scheduled for the morning of November 23rd, addresses how smart buildings can contribute to smart city development, exploring aspects such as ultra-broadband connectivity, big data management and processing, the transformation from energy consumer to energy prosumer, references to electric mobility infrastructure and, last but not least, the core innovative services, such as e-health, e-learning and smart working.

In the second session the following day, City vs Building, the viewpoint is reversed as the services typically dedicated to the urban environment, its local area and their contribution to a building’s intelligence is examined. Among the topics covered are platforms for participating at an urban level, indoor and outdoor connectivity, predictive systems based on city digital twins, monitoring systems and organising mobility, logistics and security.

The third and final workshop, Space vs City, takes place in the afternoon of November the 24th and focuses on applications from space: Earth observation technologies using increasingly fine-tuned data processing systems that allow urban area managers and administrators to act with unprecedented knowledge of the state of things, often ensuring the predictive action that makes all the difference. Monitoring the environment, infrastructures, water control, georeferencing and telecommunications. These are just some of the many applications that are available today through using satellites.

SCENARIOS

Expert eyes are needed to witness the evolution taking place. At SMART BUILDING EXPO, various trade associations will offer their point of view through discussions on the “hottest” issues in the industry, from building energy management to TV switch-off and plant safety.

Organised by ANIE-CSI, the association which, within the ANIE Federation, represents the plant components and systems industry, the Building automation in energy management of buildings: tools and prospects seminar, scheduled for November 22nd, aims to highlight how building automation and using “intelligence” in management processes, a vital resource for significantly improving both new and existing building’s stock energy performance, contribute.

The seminar, What market and skills for plant engineers post-Covid, organised by Confartigianato Impianti for November 22nd, will shine a light on a burning issue: the training and skills required to, on the technical installation side, approach the new plant engineering market, radically transformed by the pandemic. While NRRP goals, digitalisation and green economy, appear well defined, these require largely new know-how and acquiring this will be the sector’s real challenge in the near future.

Organised by ANFOV, the Italian Association for Convergence in Communication Services, the Switch off in the middle of the ford: the new dimension of television workshop (November 22nd) aims to present initial data on the progress of the second TV switch off, which began in September and will end in July 2022. A technological change that goes hand in hand with the transformation taking place in the means of television used, less and less linear, increasingly on demand and markedly hybridised with the OTT world, which also poses network and domestic systems problems which are still little known.

On the third day of the event, the last leg of the Smart Building Roadshow 2021, organised by ANITEC-Assinform in collaboration with Pentastudio and promoted by ANCE, will take place both in person and via live streaming. The themes of 2021 were recovery after pandemic-related standstills, with the focus on the two keywords in the NRRP: Digitalisation and Environmental Sustainability. At Fiera Milano, after a recap of the issues that have emerged in the six previous editions, a major round table will be held discussing the data and themes that have emerged, with top-level participation.

Also on the 24th of November, Prosiel, an Italian association whose sole purpose is to promote safety in the electrical field, proposes a workshop on plant safety. Whilst we are witnessing a historical change in home equipment and services through digitalisation, unfortunately we often forget that this revolution is grafted on old electrical systems, for which regulations provide nothing on mandatory maintenance and, through general indifference, still lead to many deaths every year.

TECHNICAL ASPECTS:

UNMISSABLE REGULATIONS AND INFORMATION

Comprehensive insights into some of the technical aspects that are of greatest interest to system design and installation professionals are offered by associations, companies and academic institutions.

Held on November 22nd and organised by Smart Building Italia in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Milan’s chair of Management of Built Environment and the Energy Manager Association, will be the seminar Measuring the efficiency of buildings: The Smart Readiness Indicator and the UNI EN 15232 standard, which aims to outline features of the European index for measuring building intelligence and cross-referencing it the UNI standard’s contents, which classifies the impact of automation on building energy performance, focusing in particular on the impact these indicators have on the real estate market.

Taking place on the same day is the Designing multimedia rooms for study and work workshop, organised by the magazine Connessioni in collaboration with associations Avixa and SIEC. This event is one of the AV playground area activities, bringing the world of professional Audio Video together at Fiera Milano. The theme, made extremely topical by the pandemic, is creating multimedia spaces practical for the “new normal” in work and study. Key interventions for capitalising on a devastating experience that has opened up a world of opportunities, which numerous businesses in training sector are seizing.

On November 23rd the BACS systems: the new frontier of building intelligence workshop, organised by  AIBACS, a recently founded association that unites companies in the sector as well as system integrators, aims to raise awareness of the nature and potential of BACS (building automation control systems), i.e., platforms for managing and controlling the main functions of a modern building, as a synthesis of systems that were once clearly distinct from each other but are now integrated through sophisticated solutions that allow different protocols to communicate with each other.

On the 23rd, the Interoperability according to KNX seminar will be held, organised by KNX Italia itself: the concept of interoperability has become more central than ever to developing complex systems of building automation, and KNX presents its ethos and the added value of KNX-branded products, which can be selected from over 8,000 on the market.

TRADES: CERTIFICATIONS AND NEW SKILLS

Professional certifications and strengthening skills are goals shared by operators all across the smart building industry. Throughout the exhibition, there will be plenty of chances for enhancing different profiles and responding to the needs of rapidly evolving sectors.

Meeting Smart Installer: towards certification, the Smart Building Italia event dedicated entirely to installers registered as “smart installers” aims to enhance industry technicians’ professionalism, preparation and training. The meeting, scheduled for November 23rd, will focus on presenting the Smart Building Italia training 2022 catalogue and the aim of certifying skills, an increasingly determining factor for market choices, organised in collaboration with APAVE Italy, one of the largest certification and training institutions in Europe.

On November 23rd, ANACI, the main trade association in the condominium administrator sector, addresses the issue of smart building management, made much more complicated by the fact that, even now, condominiums seem much more like complex machines than simple works of architecture. With the Managing intelligent buildings: a new professional challenge workshop, the association highlights the currently changing role of the administrator who is progressively becoming a facility manager, surrounded by technicians specialised in different system types, and who must also play a role in monitoring the building’s proper functioning, particularly in terms of consumption.

 A CROSS-DISCIPLINARY OFFER

SMART BUILDING EXPO, at Fiera Milano from November 22nd to 24th, 2021, confirms its modern attitude by coinciding with SICUREZZA, the biennial international security&fire exhibition, as well as, for the first time ever, being held alongside MADE expo (opening on November 22nd and running for four days, as usual, until November 25th). Over the same visit, operators will have a chance to discover an even more comprehensive offer, ranging from materials, windows, doors and casings to plant engineering, building automation and security systems.
