CASE STUDY: KKB Data Center

KKB Anadolu Data Center Adapts Cost-effective Matrix Data Center Solution

Project Highlights

• Devices: 200+

• Users: 300+

• Location: Turkey

• Application: Access Control for Data Centers

• Technology: Fingerprint and Smart Card Authentication

Company Brief

Kredi Kayıt Bürosu (KKB) was founded by the then nine leading banks of Turkey on 11th April, 1995. KKB is a highly regarded financial institution in turkey and has a total of 156 members. The KKB Anadolu Data Center is located in the capital city of Ankara across 43,000 square meters of land, consists of three main sections. The facility is equipped with protection systems against lightning and earthquake.

Issues

The data center has cabinet system in place while access to data racks require biometric authentication. The center is equipped with numerous data racks for which they required a display device at the entrance. Each rack was locked with physical locks as a result of which the center required a cost effective solution that did not include a device for each rack. Moreover, they required devices that supported both smart cart authentication as well as door locks. The center authorities were looking forward to provide the supervisors with an additional option of authentication through RFID cards. With respect to gaining access, they wanted a solution that would grant access through two steps, biometric authentication and physically opening the locking system. Finally, the center wanted a solution that could alert them in case of situations such as a door being left open.

Solutions Provided

Matrix, in association with SouthCo, provided the KKB Anadolu Data Center with the following solution:

The data center required a display device at the entrance, integrated with the biometric device installed by Matrix. So, we integrated our Data Center solution with a touch screen display. Whenever any user tried to access the data center with their biometric credentials, the touch screen would display a list of racks the respective user is authorized to access. From the display, the user would be allowed to choose the racks he/she would like to access. Once the user is granted access into the chosen racks, they will be allowed to access the same for a pre-defined period of time. User based access makes ensures security of sensitive company data. We also installed 200 COSEC ARCs, at the entry/exit of racks between 400 SouthCo locks, one between two door locks, making it a cost-effective solution for the center. Additionally, the ARC also provides the admin personnel with real-time notifications such as SMS or email notifications in case of any mishaps such as an open door, a door forced open, door being left open, etc. The personnel can also gather customized reports on events like who, when and which rack was accessed.

Solution Diagram : (as attached)

Results

• Maintenance of Diverse Data
• Foolproof Security with Biometric User-wise Rack Access
• Accurate Records of Who Accessed Data Center at What Time

Multiple remote sites are no problem, as CLIQ® cuts break-ins at a French public utility

London, April 2018 – The Communauté d’Agglomération, or district, of La Rochelle in western France operates 13 public waste reception centres which were experiencing frequent break-ins and theft of valuable recyclable material. The sites needed a major security upgrade — most importantly a reliable locking system with a track record of successfully protecting remote, dispersed premises.

Any new system would need to prevent physical keys from being copied then reused without authorization. It would require the flexibility to allow easy public access to the 13 sites during business hours, and to offer tailored access at designated times to maintenance staff, contractors or supervisors. It must also enable better workflow management for mobile security staff. Some are based up to 25 km from sites they protect.

Communauté d’Agglomération managers chose CLIQ® key-based electronic access control, installing padlocks and cylinders at all 13 sites and issuing programmable keys to authorized staff.

The impact was instant: “The number of burglaries has been reduced in a spectacular way,” says Hervé Begaud at the Communauté d’Agglomération La Rochelle.

“We used to report damages every week. Now, we have had a single, failed, attempt on a cylinder in the last 6 months.”

Easy installation, efficient workflows

Programmable CLIQ® locks are key-operated and wireless — a standard battery inside every CLIQ® key powers the microelectronics — so new cylinders and padlocks can be deployed almost anywhere, including outdoors. They are waterproof and operate without problems in temperature extremes.

Now, security guards for the 13 La Rochelle sites carry a single CLIQ® key programmed to open only appropriate locks. There’s no longer the need for managers to duplicate and then track multiple key copies. It’s easy for security administrators to update any key’s access permissions using the CLIQ® Web Manager software. Should anyone lose a key, its access rights can be deleted. There’s no need to replace any locks, which saves time and money and boosts utility security.

Thanks to CLIQ® technology, La Rochelle’s waste burglars are wasting their time — literally.

La Rochelle district administrators are impressed: they already plan to extend CLIQ® access control to all critical municipal sites.

Split introduces 1,500 parking sensors

The city of Split in Croatia recently selected Nedap to improve on-street parking. Nedap’s Sensit, a sensor-based vehicle detection system, is implemented for a total of 1,500 parking bays in three paid parking zones.
On and off street parking in Split is managed by the public entity Split Parking. In this project, Nedap closely cooperates with the Croatian companies Ericsson Nikola Tesla, Profico and Infoart.

Split is the first Croatian city to introduce an integral solution for smart parking in Croatia. The Smart Parking Split project represents a big step forward in the field of mobility in smart cities in Croatia and is awarded with the ‘Smart Mobility Award 2017’.

After a successfully implemented pilot project, Nedap partners with Ericsson Nikola Tesla, Profico and Infoart. Ericsson Nikola Tesla – an associated company of the Ericsson Group – system integrator and responsible for the city wide implementation of the ICT solution for smart parking.

Real-time vehicle occupancy data from 1,500 parking spaces at 43 different locations in the streets of Split is detected by Nedap Sensit. Sensit consists for wireless bay-mounted sensors that detect whether or not a single parking bay is occupied and how long it has been occupied. The sensors are connected to the central system through a wireless network of relay nodes and data collector.

“During the pilot phase, Nedap’s Sensit has proven to be the leading sensor-based vehicle detection system for on-street parking applications,” says Marko Bartulić, Director of Split Parking. “Split has a total 7,000 parking spaces divided over three paid parking zones. Combined with 92,000 registered vehicles and being a tourist hub, a smart approach for both on and off street parking is extremely important. The first goal is to improve the overall parking experience for our citizens. Therefore, Split Parking introduced a brand new mobile parking application. The app integrates all parking in Split and can be used by motorists helping to find an available parking space effectively and ensuring a smooth running mobile payment process. The interest for the app is huge: in just three days over 6,000 people downloaded the application.”
