The new firewall from DoorBird: Effective protection for your building network

The new DoorBird A1051 Internet Firewall is now available worldwide. DoorBird is the first in the industry to launch a user-friendly solution that provides additional protection for the network of door communication systems.

The easy-to-install firewall increases security for all networks where DoorBird products are used – both inside and outside. The Berlin-based manufacturer Bird Home Automation GmbH creates another unique selling point in the field of smart IP video communication with the DoorBird A1051 Internet Firewall product. The firewall reliably stops unauthorized network traffic without the need for complicated configurations. The product is pre-configured at the factory and ready for immediate use. The installation takes place between the local Internet router and the DoorBird IP video door communication network – easily and without any prior technical knowledge. The network is protected against unauthorized access at main and side entrances, underground garage entrances, floor accesses` or other rental areas indoors. This makes the Internet firewall suitable for large office complexes, commercial buildings, apartment buildings, and single-family residences. For example, a tenant could misuse the network cable connected to an IP video indoor station to surf the Internet or gain unauthorized access to other network components in the building. Implementing firewall solutions for this purpose with well-known firewall products is expensive, complicated and most of all very time-consuming to implement on a day-to-day basis. Part of ASSA ABLOY 2 In order to meet individual network requirements, smart home systems from third-party providers (e.g. DoorBird Connect partners) can be whitelisted. The Internet Firewall can be configured comfortably remotely via app or browser.

Dallmeier opens subsidiary “Dallmeier Austria”

Kirchberg (Austria), 16 March 2023 – Dallmeier electronic, one of the leading German manufacturers of video technology and “inventor” of the Panomera® multifocal sensor technology, announces the establishment of its own national company in Austria. The newly founded “Dallmeier Austria” will immediately support interested installers and security service providers with sales, pre-sales and support services.

Dallmeier Austira Team

Well-known customers such as the PlusCity shopping centre in Linz, the “Österreichische Landesbanken”, Holzindustrie Papst or Hipp Austria have been relying on video security systems from the Regensburg-based manufacturer Dallmeier for many years. Due to the constantly increasing demand, Dallmeier has now decided to establish its own national subsidiary. In the recently opened branch in Kirchberg an der Raab, customers and partners have all the necessary resources at their disposal for smooth project handling: from pre-sales consulting to technical support, including 24×7 service for contract customers.

Low costs and attractive margins despite “high-wage country technology”
At the heart of many Dallmeier solutions for customers with large areas or long distances are the patented Panomera®
multifocal sensor cameras
with their unique cost-benefit ratio: by combining several video sensors with different focal lengths in one optical unit, Panomera® reduces the number of cameras required many times over compared to conventional solutions.

The Domera® family of cameras, launched last year, also covers almost all “classic” video security applications in companies and organisations of all sizes. Domera® combines quality, intelligent features for fast installation and commissioning, and a modular design. The resulting solutions offer a low total cost of ownership for the end user, while providing attractive revenue opportunities for installers, channel partners and integrators involved.

Integration with systems from Milestone, Genetec or Advancis
Dallmeier offers camera systems, recording, video analysis and software solutions for a wide range of applications. The solutions can be used either as complete Dallmeier solutions or via open interfaces such as ONVIF with a variety of third party-systems. There are also integrations with numerous security and analytics systems as well as with popular VMS and PSIM systems such as Milestone, Genetec or Advancis.

Proximity to manufacturers and a comprehensive range for integrators
Dallmeier Austria serves customers in Austria through a partner programme. Based near Graz, the company offers a complete portfolio of innovative technologies and comprehensive services: For larger projects, partners can use the Dallmeier 3D planning service to precisely define all details of their future system using a “digital twin” before the project begins. During the Factory Acceptance Test, the entire system is put through its paces before being handed over, and Dallmeier Austria also offers the necessary support during operation. The geographical proximity to the parent company in Regensburg also contributes to optimal support and project management.

“With Dallmeier, partners solve a paradox: with products from a high-wage country, they can offer high-quality solutions that are more than competitive. This is due to numerous innovations that save time and money – during installation, operation, and durability,” says Michael Stix, Managing Director of Dallmeier Austria. “With the branch office we offer our partners all the necessary resources and services for optimal customer support and professional project management. We are happy to support partners who are new to us with tailor-made ‘team-up’ services. Dallmeier attaches great importance to channel neutrality. When a partner registers a project with us, they can be sure that we will guarantee them appropriate project protection.”

“With our solutions we offer the highest standard worldwide in terms of hardware quality as well as data protection and cybersecurity. Furthermore, Dallmeier products are always designed to provide the customer with a real problem solution and not just another camera product,” says Christian Linthaler, Sales Director National & International at Dallmeier electronic. “Dallmeier is an established brand for video technology in Austria with solid and dynamic growth. With the establishment of our own national company, we offer our local partners everything they need for a smooth process of pre- and post-sales, planning, consulting, and implementation.”

Monitoreal announces integration with Ajax alarm system

This powerful pairing allows users to create an accurate video detection perimeter around their property, that proactively deters intruders and monitors security events in real time. Monitoreal’s AI-based object detection can conveniently be armed and disarmed in tandem with the Ajax alarm, via the alarm’s panel and mobile app, offering superior visibility of what’s happening around your home or business.

Users can trigger Ajax intruder alarm zones based on Monitoreal’s detection of people, animals, vehicles, inanimate objects or a combination of these, in specified areas captured by connected security cameras, at particular times of the day or night. This helps avoid the false alarms that often result from irrelevant movement such as rustling trees, moving shadows, pets and other irrelevant objects.

Conversely, alarms originating from motion or magnetic sensors connected to the Ajax panel can trigger cameras to deliver Monitoreal snapshots to users, verifying the validity of those alarms.

Monitoreal’s customisable rules allow users to control whether an Ajax alarm is triggered automatically, semi-automatically, or manually based on particular detections. They also let home and business owners define the specific areas of their perimeter that are of greatest interest, and exclude insignificant zones such as neighboring properties, bushy areas, and busy roads.

Monitoreal detects much more than just humans. Identifications include 20+ items, such as vehicles, animals, and a variety of inanimate objects, giving viewers the ability to proactively take action to deter intruders with the Ajax alarm, open or close perimeter gates, and control smart light and sound accessories based on real-time alerts.

Milestone Systems Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Milestone Systems, a leading provider of open platform video management software, announced that it is celebrated its 25th anniversary on 23 February 2023.

The company was founded in 1998 by engineers John Blem and Henrik Friborg Jacobsen. The pair started the business from a basement and had approximately USD $11,500 in seed funding.

Today, Milestone has annual revenues over USD $140 million and employs more than 1,200 people around the world.

The first version of XProtect – Milestone’s open-platform video management software – was sold in 2002 to an end user in Canada. Since then, Milestone’s technology has been deployed in more than 500,000 installations and the company became a global leader in that area of the security industry. The company now has a presence in 26 locations around the globe.

“During the early 2000s, together with three or four other companies, we revolutionized the security industry by leading the transformation from analog to IP (digital) technology,” said Thomas Jensen, Chief Executive of Milestone Systems.

“Looking ahead, we are preparing to innovate again. We see a future in which data-driven video technology is a game-changer that will help to make society safer and a better place for us all to work and live.”

Orpheus Theater Chooses Bosch Praesensa Evacuation System

One of the five largest theatres in the Netherlands, Theater & Concert Orpheus, has selected Bosch’s Praesensa for its new evacuation system.

The theatre has three halls with a seating capacity between 242 and 1,286 and a restaurant.

The requirement was to upgrade the current solution to meet the necessary regulatory requirements for public buildings and ensure it received the required EN certification. As an advanced and extremely cost-efficient fully IP-based system, featuring a smart-power concept and integrated redundancy, Praesensa is perfect for both centralized and decentralized network topologies.

The main challenge was the integration of the house PA and background music system with the voice evacuation system. The aim was for a solution that would give the theater complete control over all of its Dante-based audio facilities from one interface. Achieving this aim relied on Praesensa’s built-in OMNEO networking architecture. OMNEO is an IP-based architectural approach to connecting devices to exchange information such as audio content and device control. OMNEO is able to seamlessly integrate with Dante networks ensuring the voice evacuation system and the communications operate together.

The evacuation system needed to be able to completely take over from the house PA and background music system in the event of an emergency, but also give sufficient flexibility on the background music channels when the system is in normal operation.

A 32-channel Dante matrix sits at the heart of the solution, allowing the user to manage the entire house system without effecting the Praesensa public address and voice evacuation system.

The result is a combined solution that delivers what the client required. “Due to the very good cooperation between all involved parties, the migration went very well, without hiccups,” says Henry Bax from Connect AV, the systems integrator responsible for the project. “The goal of upgrading the evacuation alarm system to the latest regulations have been achieved.”

Real Time Monitoring to Significantly Drive Security Sensor Market

Real-time monitoring and the ease of data retrieval for advanced physical and digital security are driving the need for security sensors. This is according to Frost & Sullivan’s recent analysis, Sensor Technologies Impacting the Physical and Digital Security Market.

Babu added: “Sensor technology providers must work closely with security software solution providers to build a robust, user-friendly security management system. Further, they should build strong partnerships and jointly develop video surveillance management systems to overcome internal technology development barriers in the next two or three years.”

According the study vertical markets’ wide adoption of sensors in security applications will unlock vast opportunities for industry players, for example:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI): With AI, security professionals can pre-emptively spot defective equipment like security cameras and analyse alarms from defective devices. It helps lower the chances of cyber attacks.
  • Machine learning (ML): Physical and digital security manufacturers and service providers can create security and video monitoring systems that dynamically notify users of abnormal activity using ML.
  • Robotics and drones: Mobile drone surveillance can monitor criminals on the road and help avoid or reduce deadly pursuits. Drones are also safer and offer a significant investment return over traditional surveillance.

HID Expands Healthcare Offering

HID has acquired Guard RFID, a leading provider of real-time location services (RTLS) hardware and software solutions in the healthcare space.

“Bringing Guard RFID and its innovative RTLS technology into the HID family allows us to enhance our healthcare presence to better protect patients and staff,” said Björn Lidefelt, EVP and Head of HID. “As incidents in healthcare facilities continue to rise, these solutions will help providers do what they do best – making their patients feel better, faster.”

Guard RFID’s suite of active RFID tags, readers, exciters and software support four primary use cases important to the healthcare market, including:

  • Infant Security: The Totguard infant security system prevents infant abduction and mother-baby mismatches by providing wearable tags for mothers and infants. The system works in conjunction with both a hospital’s access control and network video systems.
  • Staff Duress: 44% of nurses experience physical violence in the workplace, according to the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses. Small, lightweight active RFID tags equipped with a call button can be worn on a wristband or lanyard to help protect healthcare workers in the event of duress.
  • Asset Tracking: RFID tags are used to provide the real-time visibility of healthcare assets and enable staff to quickly find the equipment they need. This improves asset utilisation, saves labour costs, and reduces theft.
  • Patient Wandering: At-risk patients, such as the elderly or those struggling with mental health, are tagged and become instantly detected at exit doors, stairwells, and elevators. The doors can be configured to lock and sound alarms when the tags are detected in proximity, offering an extra level of protection to these patients and their caregivers.

Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, Guard RFID is now part of HID’s Identification Technologies Business Area led by Marc Bielmann. The Guard RFID offering will merge into HID’s Internet of Things (IoT) Business Unit and benefit from HID’s sales and other global functions to support its offering.
