Smart Building Startup Investment Exceeds $5.3 Billion

Global startups in the smart buildings sector raised more than $5.3 billion across 169 funding rounds in the first half of 2026, according to data from market research firm Memoori. The number of funding rounds increased by 34% compared with the same period in 2025, while the total value of investments surged by 71%, putting the sector on track for its strongest year since 2022.

The analysis is based on Memoori’s database of more than 1,950 companies founded since 2009 and covers startup funding as well as merger and acquisition activity across the global smart buildings market. AEC software, covering solutions for architecture, engineering, and construction, emerged as the best-funded market segment in the first half of the year. Memoori is also tracking 137 digital twin and artificial intelligence startups, whose development points to the expansion of these technologies beyond traditional design tools and into day-to-day building operations and management.

Acquisition activity was also strong, with 46 startups acquired during the first six months of 2026. Among the largest transactions, Memoori highlights Autodesk’s $3.6 billion acquisition of MaintainX, representing approximately 18 times the company’s projected 2027 revenue. The increase in both the number and value of investments, together with stronger consolidation activity, indicates that investors and major technology players are once again directing significant capital toward building digitalization and intelligent building management.
