Messe Frankfurt Middle East to co-locate three shows to capitalise on visitor and exhibitor synergies

Intersec, Light Middle East, and Prolight + Sound Middle East to run side-by-side in January 2021

Dubai, UAE: Messe Frankfurt Middle East, the regional subsidiary of Messe Frankfurt, one of the world’s largest trade fair, congress and event organisers, is to co-locate three of its exhibitions in Dubai to capitalise on visitor and exhibitor synergies.

Light Middle East, the region’s premier exhibition, conference and awards for lighting design and technology; Prolight + Sound Middle East, the dedicated exhibition and conference for Professional Lighting, Audio and AV Technology; and Intersec, the world’s leading trade fair for security, safety and fire protection, will now run side-by-side at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 24-26 January, 2021.

Prolight + Sound and Light Middle East will skip a 2020 showing, and will return to their usual annual status from 2021 onwards. Intersec, meanwhile, will run as a solo event in its 22nd edition from 19-21 January 2020.

“This is a strategic move to maximise visitor and exhibitor turnout as all three shows share a similar visitor appeal, whether system integrators, installers, specifiers, or consultants,” explained Simon Mellor, CEO of Messe Frankfurt Middle East.

“With all three shows taking place at the same time, exhibitors will meet a more focussed audience and visitors will be able to take in the entire integration range under one roof. We’re creating a powerful event alignment featuring more than 1,700 exhibitors from 60 countries.”

“The co-location also enables us to strengthen the smart home and building automation focus, which will cover audio and video as well as lighting and security,” added Mellor. “It will be a feature of its own sitting between Intersec and Prolight + Sound Middle East. “We also see high growth potential for emergency lighting, PA systems, egress and escape route solutions and intend to build this segment.”

Other developments include the inclusion of an Events Security Pavilion and Conference that will spotlight the entire range of services and products dedicated to securing live events, concerts, festivals and major sporting occasions.

Visitor and exhibitor appeal

Messe Frankfurt Middle East says the show trio will find greater traction among its main target visitor groups which include event organisers, leisure and entertainment operators, hospitality professionals, hotel developers, construction experts, architects, planners and consultants.

“The show combination is likely to attract more relevant visitors, especially system integrators and installers, who may not have been inclined towards the individual events in their smaller formats,” added Mellor.

“Nearly 6,000 trade visitors to Intersec are system integrators or installers, and they would greatly benefit from a wider solutions spectrum that the three shows combined will offer from 2021 on.”

The alignment of Intersec, Light Middle East, and Prolight + Sound Middle East follows a visitor survey of all three events which clearly demonstrated an appetite for the co-location.

More than 1,500 of the Intersec 2019 visitors expressed an interest to visit Light Middle East, while a further 1,125 would also be keen to stop by Prolight + Sound Middle East. Similarly, a large percentage of Prolight and Light Middle East visitors voiced their intent to visit Intersec.

Nour Assafiri, CEO of Venuetech, a Light Middle East Gold Sponsor and exhibitor at Prolight + Sound Middle East, believes the move to co-locate the three events will deepen the product and service offerings for visitors.

“Many of our clients already attend Intersec and our sales teams make the trip down there when the show is on. There’s definitely a cross over for us, especially in the audio/visual space and it will allow us a better platform for us to interact and build relations with existing and prospective customers.

“We’re always the first to support Messe Frankfurt Middle East and we believe strongly in a dedicated event for the audio/visual industry with a good network of attendees. There are very few distributers of AV products and, as a leader in the market, we believe we can offer a better package of products to cater for an expanded visitor demographic.”

Prolight + Sound Middle East, Light Middle East and Intersec will be held from 24 to 26 January 2021.

SICUREZZA 2019:  A GROWING NUMBER OF EXHIBITORS AND INCREASINGLY SPECIALISED TRAINING

More than 500 companies will present the smartest security&fire solutions for homes, cities and workplaces. At Fiera Milano in November, the international event dedicated
to a sector in continuous evolution

Milan, 9 October 2019 – Intelligent video cameras that warn in case of potential risk, anti-intrusion solutions that can be managed remotely, integrated cloud systems, biometrics, facial recognition, artificial intelligence, and drones are just some examples of the significant development the security world is experiencing. The technologies called upon to protect our homes and the city streets on which we live as well as safeguard people and possessions in the workplace have drastically changed, as have the professionalisms that manage and install them.

SICUREZZA, the Fiera Milano event taking place from 13 to 15 November in Rho – with 539 companies, up 16% compared to the last edition – prepares to welcome operators with an offer that is highly representative of the market.

Integration, digitalisation and smart solutions will be the drivers behind an exhibition offer that combines the best of technology with a busy schedule of training initiatives and special areas.

Thanks to the presence of leading Italian and international brands, SICUREZZA allows visitors to evaluate new and previewed products across all sectors, be it video surveillance, firefighting, access control or passive security, but also to contextualize and understand the sector’s evolutionary driving forces, guiding professionals towards the market of tomorrow.

SICUREZZA will once again run alongside Smart Building Expo, the event dedicated to digital technologies for networked buildings and smart cities. Security is an increasingly integral part of building management systems as well as being a guarantee of data management. A technological synergy that is integrated within the two events, with operators benefiting from being able to visit both with just one ticket.

THE FOCUS
Much more than spaces for professional updating, SICUREZZA also incorporates vertical areas that combine high-level training with opportunities to discover innovative technologies and alternative approaches to problems in the sector.

– The Cyber Arena: growing digitalisation and the hybrid nature of new risks relating to this is revolutionising the technological landscape, drawing attention, across all production fields, to the protection of data and the activation of strategies to protect assets from various kinds of attack. For this reason, SICUREZZA also makes room for a new exhibition, training and information area dedicated to the topic of Cyber Security, to help companies better manage information threats. Raelized with the scientific contribution of Business International-Fiera Milano Media, a Fiera Milano Group company, it is backed by AIPSA (Italiana Association of Security Professionals) and ANRA (Italian Association of Risk and Security Managers). Key experts in the sector will attend the exhibition, providing their views as to the main effects of cyber threats on Security players during the Cyber Security Talks.

– SICUREZZA Drone Expo: the vertical area organised in collaboration with Mediarkè makes a return and “doubles up” for the first time. Within SICUREZZA there will be space dedicated to drones for security and civil protection, while Smart Building Expo, in light of the increasing use of drones in the building sector, will incorporate an APR area reserved to companies specialising in the aero photogrammetry sector and the use of drones for design, construction, maintenance and restoration activities relating to buildings and urban areas, as well as the management and monitoring of land. In the ‘aviary’, visitors will be able to see demos of new drone models. There will also be a dedicated training offer with two updates, namely new anti-drone systems for the safety of airports, government buildings and sensitive targets, and aero photogrammetry using drones in the building and city planning arena.

CONVENTIONS AND MEETINGS TO DEVELOP THE SECTOR
The latest themes tackled by international experts, associations and academic institutions: updating at SICUREZZA also involves a reach calendar of training initiatives, covering subjects from urban safety to cyber security, without forgetting the latest regulations and standards regarding the world of installers and designers. There will also be many events arranged by certifying bodies, allowing various professional figures (industrial experts, engineers, installers and security operators) to obtain training credits.

The importance of continuous training will also be at the heart of initiatives by editors in the sector.

Thanks to the contribution of lawyers, engineers, and privacy and rights experts, the Ethos Academy will offer installers and designers professional training meetings on video surveillance and data protection, privacy, GDPR, CEI regulations and firefighting systems. Skills can no longer be improvised and those who are not aware of their civil and legal responsibilities put both themselves and the company they work for at risk.

The S News television set will welcome the tried and tested format that alternates talk shows with workshops and conventions that will tackle some of the sector’s hottest topics: privacy and video surveillance in kindergartens and nursing homes; Urban and Shared Security; biometric identity and privacy verification; International Security and Duty of Care; Aviation Security and NIS Directive.

Lastly, Securindex will organise training sessions aimed at both professional security installers already in possession of certification from third-party bodies, and installers who want to receive information on some of the most important subjects relating to their activity. Themes include the CEI 79.3:2012 standard, contractual responsibilities of installers, sales techniques, GDPR and video surveillance.

In addition, within the Smart Building Expo and with the support of SICUREZZA, the Milano Smart City Conference will be held at Fiera Milano during the days of the exhibitions, with three days of international reflection on the topic of the smart city and the impact new technologies are having at this crucial time, as 5G is released as the enabling infrastructure of new applications in the urban environment.

The smart city represents one of the most interesting challenges for the security sector in recent years, but also involves the entire supply chain, from latest-generation building design to building automation. In order to tackle this subject with a multidisciplinary approach, speakers will include national and local institutional figures, university lecturers and representatives from firms that are on the front line in terms of the current technological evolution. Security and urban surveillance will make up one of the three main focuses of the conference, with particular reference to the predictive and soft response to urban problems relating to security and control of the area.

LEARNING FROM EXCELLENCE
Rounding out the training offer, SICUREZZA 2019 will also host two Awards that seek to recognise excellence and encourage reflection on the best practice and winning strategies of professionals and companies.

Premio H d’oro, the competition organised by the Enzo Hruby Foundation and dedicated to the best security system, has selected the exhibition as the backdrop to its annual Award Ceremony for winners and finalists, taking place on 14 November at 3 p.m. The unique initiative promotes the professionalism of the most highly qualified operators and offers them significant visibility, allowing them to stand out for their ability to create “tailor made” security systems for each specific context, created based on the needs of the client.

Premio securindex Installatore Certificato, an initiative created to encourage installers to use digital communication to promote their company, will identify those installers who have received the most contacts on the securindex.com page. Awards are given in two categories – company and for self-employed salespeople – for a total of seven winners, three per category with reference to the area of origin (Northern, Central and Southern Italy/Islands), and an overall winner. The Award Ceremony will take place on 14 November at 5 p.m.

Second annual Intersec Awards celebrate industry leaders

Projects demonstrating highest standards of security, safety and fire protection recognised at Dubai gala event

Dubai, UAE: Professionals in the security, safety and fire protection industry gathered for the second edition of the Intersec Awards last night during a gala event to celebrate their achievements in the industry.

The ceremony which was hosted by Messe Frankfurt Middle East, the organisers of Intersec – was held at Dubai’s Habtoor Palace Ballroom and saw more than 250 guests attend.

The awards saw 130 entrants across nine categories, with entries received from companies across the globe, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Mozambique, Germany, Canada and Singapore.

Simon Mellor, CEO of Messe Frankfurt Middle East, said: “The Intersec Security, Safety & Fire Protection Awards are a celebration of innovation, excellence, perseverance, teamwork, and of the dedication by the entire commercial security and fire protection community that continuously keep our societies safe and secure.”

Spread across five security and four fire categories, entries went through a rigorous judging process which took place over two days and required shortlisted nominees to present their projects and products and attend a question and answer interview in front of an independent panel.

The panel of judges including industry leaders and experts from companies such as Khalifa University, the Security Industry Regulatory Agency (SIRA), Dubai Civil Defence and EMAAR.

EJADAH was the only company to win across two categories on the night, walking away with the ‘Security Project of the Year’ and ‘Innovative Security Product of the Year’ awards. The UAE-based provider of community solutions for real estate assets was awarded for its work on upgrading the CCTVs across Jumeirah Beach Residences and their Security Robotic Service, respectively.
Zainab Al Rahma, Marketing and Communications Manager for EJADAH, said: “Our robots will now offer the security industry and our customers the opportunity to purchase or rent assets that will enhance and improve the standard and quality of security services provided.

“They are an excellent example of utilising the latest technology that can be easily integrated into any existing security systems. Once integrated these products will certainly compliment any of our customers’ security plans for their developments.”

Engineering firm WSP added to its two award wins from 2018, taking home the ‘Fire Project of the Year’ award for its work on The Wharf in Bluewaters Island.

Alexander Castellanos, a consultant from WSP, said: “This project is a change from the super and mega high rises and posed unique fire and life safety strategy elements which had to be considered.

“With the project being focused on delivering a pedestrian experience and its low-rise nature, the fire strategy took advantage of this design element in order to address life safety elements such as fire service access, phased evacuation, and evacuation discharge as an integral part of the design and allowing for efficiencies while maintaining a high standard of safety.”

In addition to returning award categories, the ceremony saw the introduction of new categories such as the ‘Humanitarian Project Award’, won by Sicuro Group for their Mozambique Crisis Response & Operation Strategy.

Provider of security management systems, Maxxess, took home another of the newly introduced award categories, the ‘System Integrator of the Year’, for its work on Bluewaters Island.

“The eFusion security management platform was chosen by Bluewaters, and it uses versatile, open-technology software without the need for complex or bespoke integration,” said Lee Copland, Managing Director EMEA, Maxxess. “This project benefited from the cost advantage of a modular, building block approach that gives maximum freedom to integrate, customise and adapt security systems to meet both current needs and emerging risks.

“The reduced costs therefore apply not just to the present implementation, but also to future adaptations which will also be achieved much more easily.

“Off-the-shelf, plug-and-play integration is much less expensive than a customized solution, and eFusion already integrates with more than 60 leading security technologies, with more being added continuously.”

The 22nd edition of Intersec will take place from 19-21 January 2020 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, featuring more than 1,300 exhibitors from 59 countries, covering the seven key show sections of Commercial Security, Fire & Rescue, Homeland Security & Policing, Physical & Perimeter Security, Safety & Health, Cyber Security, and Smart Home & building Automation.

IN THE MIDST OF A GROWING MARKET

Milan, July 2019 – With the opening of the online ticket office, the countdown to SICUREZZA 2019 has officially started. SICUREZZA 2019 is a reference event for operators in Italy and one of the most important in Europe dedicated to the security and fire-fighting sectors.
The event, to be held from November 13 to 15 at Fiera Milano – Rho, is preparing to welcome Italian and international professional visitors at a particularly successful time for the market. According to the most recent data, the building security and automation sector confirmed a growth in total revenue (+6.8% at current values) in 2018 in Italy and building security and automation technology exports showed a dynamic profile, growing by +9.2% (Source: ANIE Sicurezza).

In this context, SICUREZZA is once again a key business opportunity for operators and companies that want to seize the positive moment of the market.
As last year’s trends suggest, thefire-fighting sector benefited from a growing demand from end users and the dissemination of audio evacuation systems. As the result of technological innovation and an increased level of digitisation, integration and convergence between systems continue to be one of the main drivers of growth in the security sector. The video surveillance segment was equally dynamic.

For this reason, even more space will be dedicated to fire-fighting at SICUREZZA with some of the most interesting products in the sector, while the strong attention to innovation in all areas of security, spanning from video surveillance and access control to advanced anti-intrusion systems, passive security and drones used as monitoring and rescue tool, is confirmed.
Another strength of this edition will be Smart Building Expo, the event dedicated to digital technologies for networked buildings and smart cities, which will be held on the same days as SICUREZZA and can be visited with a single admission ticket.

SOLUTIONS FOR ALL APPLICATION FIELDS

The outlook of security technologies is increasingly linked to the areas of application. All products or solutions today are designed in relation to a specific context in which they are able to offer the best performance. From everyday life in cities and extraordinary situations, such as major public events, to offices and shops, not to mention the elusive yet increasing presence of data security, application contexts are challenging companies to create advanced and versatile solutions which can be increasingly integrated by exploiting the impetus offered by digitisation.
So, SICUREZZA will focus on the most common reference contexts and also explore interesting, unusual case histories. Companies will be able to share successful experiences with operators interested in each specific area of intervention and visiting professionals will have the opportunity to better understand the technological evolution in progress, discovering solutions suited to their every need.

Here are some of the focus contexts of the event:

Major public events
The regulations that have come into force in recent years require local authorities and organisers of public events to use complex equipment to control access, count attendance, constantly monitor people on site and intervene in case of evacuations or fires.
The direct responsibility of organisers means that public authorities choosing to hold a major event are the first to be interested in having technologies that can quickly and accurately monitor people and venues At SICUREZZA, municipalities and event organisers will find specific solutions for their needs, such as smart cameras capable of autonomously detecting anomalies in the movement of people, systems for monitoring gates and access counters, systems for preventing and extinguishing fires and they will benefit from the direct experience of companies that have already successfully dealt with the complex world of major public event organisation.

Urban security
Large and small towns are at the centre of a profound technological revolution. Access control, the monitoring of number plates at the entrance points of traffic restricted areas or in particular sites are now entrusted to increasingly sophisticated and intelligent electronic systems, which work alongside the police and traffic wardens. In addition to traffic control and the management of car parks and accesses, municipalities of all sizes are investing in security technologies and increasingly moving towards protection and monitoring architectural heritage and culturally relevant sites, including nature reserves and parks.
Safety nets in cities are increasingly close-knit and very often supplemented by technologies installed by private citizens. In this context, which is discreetly changing the appearance of towns and cities, keeping abreast of the available technologies is essential for local administrators, law enforcement and all security operators who may be called upon to design and install systems in urban contexts.
In and near cities there are particularly sensitive transport networks, sites, stations and airports which require dedicated solutions.
In the context of the evolution of technologies for cities and mobility, we are also witnessing an articulated and increasingly integrated development of connected solutions which impacts other contexts, in addition to security. It is the smart city paradigm. An increasingly concrete approach to which many of the solutions presented at Smart Building Expo will also be dedicated.

Home
Homes by definition must protect the people who live there and must be protected from risks and intruders. The solutions available today are more and more advanced and guarantee the monitoring and control of every room and of the outdoor perimeter. Users can easily keep an eye on their home even remotely, alert law enforcement in the event of anomalies and always be informed of any movement and even who is ringing their door bell when they are away.
Ease of installation and the remarkable versatility of the systems on the market today makes it much simpler for individual residents and condo managers to adopt solutions which are also attractive as a result of an ever-increasing attention to the design of each product.
From access control to video surveillance, often integrated with other functions such as door phone system or thermal monitoring, these technologies will be present at SICUREZZA with a large number of companies offering solutions for the residential sector.
The next frontiers of connected buildings, from design to full operation, will be the focus of Smart Building Expo and offer an additional opportunity to explore the most advanced perspectives of building automation.

Workplaces
Production lines, offices and construction sites alike are workplaces which most require integrated safety systems, capable of guaranteeing maximum efficiency at all times. Banks, factories, large companies and small businesses are demanding bespoke solutions being a complex challenge for the manufacturers, designer and installers of security systems.
There are more and more solutions on the market offering customisation opportunities for all business contexts.
At SICUREZZA, security managers, security integrators and everyone else responsible for security in a company can choose from the many proposals available today, from video surveillance to fire-fighting, as well as an entire pavilion dedicated to access control and passive security.

Retail
In busy shopping malls on the outskirts of town or in small local shops, the need to protect goods from theft, detecting access and movements of customers where necessary, is essential and often comes with surveillance needs of goods in the warehouse or during storage. Advanced video surveillance systems also able to monitor and evaluate the movements of people in shops are becoming key tools for protecting goods, but also customers by being able to monitor the actions of potential muggers or thieves.
In addition, there is a need to avoid the risk of fire, especially in contexts where goods and materials may be particularly exposed.
Many companies that offer solutions for retail will be attending SICUREZZA with increasingly advanced and discreet technologies designed not to disturb the shopping experience and to be useful tools for analysing in-store customer behaviour at the same time.

Data protection
The GDPR is now in full effect making data protection tools indispensable in all areas. Cybersecurity is important because intelligent cameras and access control systems are now powerful processors of data more often transmitted wirelessly and stored in the cloud for the time needed to process them. Being able to protect the data acquired by the latest generation of security technologies from cyber-criminals is one of the most delicate challenges for companies in the sector, but also and above all for installers, called by the General Data Protection Regulation to be legally responsible if data protection weaknesses or anomalies are discovered in the installed system.
It is a particularly sensitive and still little-known area on which manufacturers have focused heavily in recent years. Visitors to SICUREZZA will find concrete answers in the solutions on show and through training opportunities for professionals at all levels on issues related to GDPR application and the protection of data and privacy of users.

AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO BUSINESS WITH THE WORLD

All the languages of business will be spoken at SICUREZZA by exhibitors and visitors alike.

Small and medium-sized companies seeking new outlets on foreign markets will find a preferential channel through which to open new business opportunities.
SICUREZZA will host 200 top international buyers from markets most interested in the offers on display, such as Europe and the Mediterranean basin, North Africa, Russia and former-CIS Republics, the Balkans, the Baltic Republics and the Middle East.

SICUREZZA 2019: INNOVATION SCENARIOS, CERTIFIED TRAINING AND BEST PRACTICES

The event at Fiera Milano from 13 to 15 November will be offering a wide range of cutting-edge training opportunities and technological proposals.

Milan, 10 June 2019 – SICUREZZA 2019 – the Fiera Milano event dedicated to security and fire prevention, from 13 to 15 November 2019 – will be the perfect showcase for the latest technologies, but also an opportunity to discuss and to learn all about the major challenges that the sector and the people that work in it are required to handle.

The range of solutions on display will give visitors the chance to assess the newest products on the market for video surveillance, access control and anti-intrusion. A new addition this year is an entire hall dedicated to passive security which, for the first time, will be hosting a demo area where break-in simulations will be staged to test the state-of the-art technologies presented. The extension of fire prevention to fire extinguishing has been confirmed and cyber security, which has become transversal to all sectors, will be featured with a dedicated project enabling us to take a look at new development prospects for the sector.

Meanwhile, thanks to the contribution made by the event’s partner network of associations, professional orders and publishing houses, the three-day event will be accompanied by a varied range of training opportunities. Covering numerous spheres of reference, the training sessions all share the same logic, focused on innovation, the promotion of professions and the expansion of the fields of application.

INNOVATION TRENDS AND SCENARIOS
Inspired by constant innovation and the growing need for integration, the security sector is undergoing extensive changes.

One of the paradigms that has emerged in recent years and is destined to change the market forever is digitalisation, which places the emphasis on cyber security, something that is taking on an increasingly central role in risk assessment in a world which is becoming more and more digital every day.

According to the World Economic Forum Global Risks Report 2019, cyber-attacks are among the top five risks considered to pose the biggest threat to the economy and business in the near future making them the technological risk that everyone fears most. It is estimated that from 2020, more than 25% of cyber-attacks will concern online devices and the IoT. Whether we’re talking about video surveillance, home automation systems, electronic locks or complex biometric recognition algorithms, every security system – and today’s security systems are increasingly smart and interconnected – is exposed to the risk of cyber-attack.

This is why SICUREZZA will also be presenting, for the first time, a training and information area dedicated to Cyber Security. There will be sessions aimed at explaining the new scenarios, alternated with brief meetings with experts in the sector who will offer their vision of the main impacts on various types of operator.

There will also be contributions from different associations who have chosen SICUREZZA as the platform for discussing the risks posed and opportunities offered by this new technological phase.

Another focus on rapidly developing new technologies will be dedicated to drones, which are expected to represent a 100 billion dollar market by 2020 (source: Goldman Sachs). Already an essential part of the world of security, not only does the operation of UAVs (Unmanned aerial vehicle) require specific certified piloting qualifications, it also requires additional preparation to make their use increasingly synergistical with the other technologies used.
This is why, following the evolution of the market, SICUREZZA Drone Expo is returning to Hall 7: organised by Mediarkè, it will be bringing together companies that supply drones, systems and services for security, intelligence, rescue and civil defence activities. The arena will also be available for test flights and a convention will be held during which the most interesting possibilities of use and dissemination of drones will be analysed.
There will also be a second drone exhibition area, once again managed by Mediarkè. This area will be in Hall 6, as part of the Smart Building Expo, held at the same time as SICUREZZA. The area will be reserved for companies specialised in the aerial photography sector and in the use of drones for the design, construction, maintenance and restoration of buildings and urban areas, as well as the management and monitoring of the territory.

SECURITY AND THE SMART CITY CHALLENGE
Urban security, along with the smart management of all the components that allow the operation of a city, represent one of the greatest security challenges of all, considering the numerous variables to be monitored constantly.

An important contribution in this sense comes from Scenari di Sicurezza Urbana, the convention on urban security organised by FOIM (Fondazione Ordine Ingegneri di Milano) in conjunction with SICUREZZA, with the patronage of the Order of Engineers of the Province of Milan.
Starting with a speech by the international keynote speaker Don Erickson, CEO of SIA (Security Industry Association), the convention will focus on what is happening in Italy in the integrated security sector. Mr Erickson will be talking about technological trends (focusing on solutions applicable to urban security) and revealing the customer-supplier partnership models used in the United States, which have been contributing to the creation of the most fluid communication possible along the entire supply chain for some years now.
The aim of the meeting, a year on from the presentation of the reference practices drawn up by UNI and FOIM, will also be to understand how Public Administrations are moving within the scope of the regional framework agreements and protocols of intent with Italy’s Prefectures, and to offer operators and public officials a way to intercept the changes that could occur within the sector in the mid-term.

The smart city is one of the most interesting challenges for the security sector in recent years. It involves the entire supply chain, from the design of cutting-edge buildings to building automation. To tackle this challenge with a multidisciplinary approach, within the Smart Building Expo and with the support of SICUREZZA, Fiera Milano will be hosting the Milano Smart City Conference. This is a three-day international focus on the smart city and the impact of new technologies at a technologically crucial time, that of the release of the 5G infrastructure to enable new applications at urban level. Urban security and monitoring will be one of the three main topics of the conference, with particular reference to predictive and soft responses to the problems of urban areas in terms of security and control of the territory.

CERTIFIED TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Technological evolution and new legislation have completely revolutionised the scenario and require increasingly specific skills. The multiplication of the areas of intervention and the complexity of the responsibilities that operators at all levels now have to bear, make it necessary to ensure that constantly updated and systematic information is always available. The only way to enable and certify professional operators is to train them, making them the sole points of reference for those seeking security solutions and making them more aware of the role they play and of the increasing legal implications and risks of their activity.

SICUREZZA will be offering numerous professional training opportunities, organised by the certifying boards themselves, for various professional figures (industrial surveyors, engineers, installers, security operators), providing them with the possibility to attain training credits.

Besides being a duty and a necessary requirement to keep up with the market as it evolves, certified training also becomes a tool to enhance recognisability and to be competitive. Within the scope of SICUREZZA, to reward those fitters who have invested in the professional skills, Securindex, the Italian security hub, is organising the closing ceremony of the first edition of the Premio Securindex Installatore Certificato (Securindex Certified Installer Award). The award has been created to encourage installers to use digital communication to promote their companies on the market and to raise awareness among its customers of the importance of contacting certified professionals. Intelligent solutions for security and beyond Secutech brought Asia’s AI and IoT ecosystems together

Another productive edition of Secutech wrapped up in Taipei earlier this month, with visitors praising the fair for the quality of its exhibitors and for its product variety. Together with four concurrent events, the fair hosted 335 exhibitors of security, mobility, smart building, info security and fire safety products at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Centre from 8 – 10 May 2019.
Thanks to the expansion of the IoT sector, the possibilities to integrate security products with processes such as building management have grown. With this in mind, the 2019 edition of Secutech was organised to be much more than a business platform for security products. In fact, two of the fair’s four concurrent events, “Mobility” and “SMABIoT”, not only presented buyers with security solutions, but they also offered products such as smart building and fleet management systems.
Ms Regina Tsai, the Deputy General Manager of Messe Frankfurt New Era, spoke at the conclusion of the fair about the positive reaction to the fair’s product variety: “We are delighted to have welcomed 19,956 trade visitors through the doors over the past three days, including system integrators, consultants and distributors from Asia and beyond. The feedback has been encouraging, with visitors commending the fair for offering the complete chain of products across different sectors: from total surveillance and access control systems to security subsystems all the way down to individual components such as camera lenses.”

As a platform for international buyers to connect with Taiwan’s advanced solution providers, Secutech is recognised by the Taiwanese Government as a positive force for the local security industry.
In remarks at the opening ceremony of the most recent edition, Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-Wen said that the fair helped to promote Taiwanese innovations to the world: “I am pleased to join you all at this security industry event, to learn how AI and IoT technologies can be used in daily life for disaster prevention. By gathering industry stakeholders from across Southeast Asia to discuss the development of smart applications and products, the fair supports our New Southbound Policy and provides an opportunity to showcase the innovative and robust side of Taiwan to the world.”
She continued: “Through the joint efforts of the government and the industry, the IoT sector reached a value of over one trillion NTD last year. Meanwhile the security industry has opened up value-added markets and recorded more than 60 billion NTD in export value.”

New technologies will continue to drive cross sector opportunities
Thirteen themed zones and pavilions were spread across 20,215 sqm of exhibition space at the fair, providing sourcing opportunities for AI software, cloud services, access control systems, IoT security and much more.
One of many discussion points between exhibitors and visitors at the fair was the topic of convergence. Mr Tony Luce, the Director of Sales, Marketing, and Business Development for Network Optix (Nx) spoke about how new online technologies are narrowing the gaps between sectors and creating more business opportunities: “Traditionally, security surveillance technology has been proprietary, but because of the expansion of cloud services and web based platforms over the last five years, we are seeing a lot more interoperability. There are now more opportunities to integrate, and integrations are faster and easier to do. A lot of convergence is taking place because the line between a retail analytics product and a security product, for example, is completely blurred. You can use the same technology to accomplish two different goals.”
Talking about the benefits of exhibiting at Secutech, he said: “We have been coming to the fair for a few years now. We come back because it’s a good place to engage with partners and inform the market about new solutions. Taiwan drives a lot of hardware solutions and OEM opportunities. The quality of visitors that come here tend to be a little bit higher from an engineering perspective, allowing us to have higher level conversations.”
At the concurrent Mobility event, Mr Joseph Huang, a Sales Manager at Vecow, shared similar sentiments about the effectiveness of the show: “We are a local company and this is our first time exhibiting at the concurrent Mobility event. The fair gives us the opportunity to meet with relevant international buyers and system integrators. We can share our new product information with potential clients at the fair and hold business discussions to find co-operation opportunities.”

Buyers commend product variety
With its four concurrent events, the fair offered visitors plenty of cross-over sourcing and integration opportunities. From surveillance cameras, access control systems, and police equipment, to GPS tracking systems, on-board cameras and firefighting gear, visitors had a broad berth of products to source at the fair.
“I am here at the fair because I can find a full range of components, software solutions, and integration opportunities for both home automation and security,” said Mr Michael Bell, the President and CEO of Japanese company Inter-Tel, who traveled to the fair to attend the concurrent SMABIoT event. “We provide telecommunication and senior services solutions to local residents and businesses. Taiwanese companies have very high R&D capabilities and good quality control.”
Echoing Mr Bell’s positive sentiments, Mr Amon Bazongo, co-founder and CEO of Rwandan company Yanfoma, said: “My company provides IT services and we have customers that have asked us to do system integration with access control systems. I have met with several Taiwanese companies, including one that have invited me to their office after the fair. These types of interactions help to build trust.”

Fringe programme educates the market on AI and IoT trends for security, building, transportation and disaster management
Aside from networking and sourcing opportunities, visitors to the fair also had the chance to educate themselves on new market trends through the fair’s three-day fringe programme.
Each concurrent event hosted its own series of forums and seminars, with topics ranging from BIoT innovations and future IoT transportation trends, to the uses of AI for security and disaster management.
Mr Joel Liu, the Vice President of HomeScenario was both an exhibitor at the fair and a speaker at the Smart Living Solutions Forum. After his presentation, he said that there is a lot of promise for AIoT to be implemented in Asia’s smart building sector: “Asia is still a growing smart building market compared to Europe and the USA, so there is a lot of potential for growth. My talk dealt with how smart building solutions can be built using AIoT and security subsystems. AIoT has become a buzzword in recent years, with many different ways of using the technology. The response from the audience has been very encouraging.”
While much excitement at the fair surrounded the new application possibilities for AI and the IoT, these were not the only technologies being discussed at the seminars and forums. Mr Vince Kuo, a speaker at the Asia Pacific Cold Chain Logistics Seminar explained that RFID technology can also be used across different vertical markets: “In the past, our company, GIGA-TMS, used RFID technology specifically for security purposes, however the technology can be used in many different ways, so we also started using it for the purpose of monitoring and tracking in cold-chain logistics.”

The Use of Biometric Data in the Focus of SECURITY EXPO 2019

Nearly 100 innovative technological solutions offered higher confidence to business customers for physical and digital security

In the course of three days, from 6 to 9 March, in Inter Expo Center, the 26th edition of the international exhibition SECURITY EXPO presented solutions for higher security through the use of biometric data. Once again, the exhibition turned into a platform for establishing contacts, sharing ideas, presenting new products and technologies. In addition, the shows which ran in parallel with SECURITY EXPO, ARCHITECTURE AND CONSTRUCTION WEEK and WATER TECH EXPO made it possible to establish more beneficial business contacts in sectors of public significance. From 6 to 9 March, over 7,200 professionals visited the three exhibitions.

SECURITY EXPO is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Interior, through General Directorate “Fire Safety and Protection of Population” and Directorate “Communication and Information Systems,” the Ministry of Defence, through the Defence Institute “Professor Tsvetan Lazarov” and Sofia Municipality, through Directorate “Emergency Relief and Prevention.”

The leaders in the field of video surveillance have for several years offered the possibility to use a fingerprint and face recognition for access control. This year, technologies have shown even greater advances and provide the opportunity for visual communication between parties. An even bigger part of the business has started using such innovative technologies, people from SECTRON shared. For yet another year, they showed improved video surveillance solutions and systems in their high-tech demo truck.

Visitors viewed cameras for face and image recognition in hard-to-access areas, next-generation cameras without blind spots and higher capacity for video analysis. Leading companies, such as Andi L and TEKRA, also presented working and successful video surveillance systems. This is how the Bulgarian public learned more about the advantages of solutions by world leading brands like BOSCH, HKVISION, SONY.

From the presentation by SECTRON, customers learnt more about new products in the field of fire alarms, alarm systems, evacuation and voice notification systems, rapid fire suppression systems. Visitors also witnessed the premiere of the cargo electric vehicle ALKE. The innovative fire extinguishing module Shumcar from Auto Engineering is an option already preferred by many of the Bulgarian forestries.

We now sign with our mobile phone
New biometric-based technologies offer higher security and are evidence of the exceptional progress of the business. This is happening not only in the field of physical guards and security, but also in digital cybersecurity. This is what became clear during the second conference on secure and digital payments SECURITY OF DIGITAL PAYMENTS on 6 March, organized by Inter Expo Center. A modern and secure system for electronic identification through a mobile phone was presented at the conference, the system’s creator, professor Georgi Dimitrov shared. It allows overall digital transformation and an option for remote electronic signature. The system was declared a champion in digital transformation by EC, an example of a breakthrough solution in the field of digitalization in the investment development report at the World Economic Forum in Davos. This revolutionary change will soon be one of the products offered by BORICA. We will be able to pay using fingerprint and face recognition, Radoslav Dimitrov, director of “Cards and Terminals” at Borica, announced. Biological features become passwords.
The conference was also attended by the world leader in software solutions for fraud prevention, OneSpan. The company has won the trust of more than half of the top 100 financial institutions in the world like HSBC, Deutsche Bank, US Bank, MUFG, Mizuho. Other innovative Bulgarian companies also presented successful systems and approaches for preventing financial misuse.

We now pay using a fingerprint and face scanning
The FinTech industry is rapidly developing. The Paysera FinTech company, which started out as an intermediary for cheap inter-currency transfers, is now gathering speed to become a working online bank. In 2018 only, customers have made payments for over 540 million leva, and the company has saved its clients more than 2 million leva from fees and commission fees. In contrast to many other banks, it uses a multi-factor identification system.

Mobile payments are still something new for the Bulgarian market, but they will be growing in number. Participants saw live the creators of the most innovative FinTech companies, Paynetics and Phyre, Valeri Valchev and Konstantin Dzhelebov demonstrating a payment being made and received in just a few seconds over two phones.
The banking system in Bulgaria is opening up and should offer its client a secure and convenient customer experience. However, at present there only a few banks which open their systems for new market players.

The goal is to make payments not using a card, but the customer’s account, regardless of the bank he is with, commented Vladimir Ikonomov, chair of the Bulgarian Association of the Certified Fraud Examiners, part of the international organization ACFE.

The share of digital channels is yet to grow, and Bulgaria is one of the countries with serious potential in this field. At the same time, online fraud in EU has increased by 27% in the past 3 years. This year, a growth of 8% is expected.

Do not pay ransom in cryptocurrency, experts advise
Fraud is most often done during real-time transactions. On 7 March, demonstrations of real hacker attacks were presented by experts from the Information Security Cluster and the Bulgarian Association of Certified Ethical Hackers. Weaknesses lie in the confidence of every business hat this cannot happen to it, in using one and the same password. What is the solution?

The use of secure applications and several levels of recognition, or two or three-factor authentication is a must. It is extremely important to use outside companies to manage all available information and prevent attempts at information and monetary misuse.

More and more companies are losing millions because of malicious cryptoviruses. Do not pay a ransom and it is almost certain that you will have to forsake all your information, Rostislav Petrov, chair of the Bulgarian Association of Certified Ethical Hackers, commented.

SICUREZZA 2019: THE POSITIVE TREND CONTINUES.

THE SHOW AT FIERA MILANO FROM 13 TO 15 NOVEMBER
With security an ever more pervasive concern, the challenges for professionals, on which the exhibition will focus, are continuing to grow. And in the run up to the event, the international roadshow will be making its next stopover at London.

Milan, 15 April 2019 – SICUREZZA 2019, to be held at Fiera Milano on 13 to 15 November this year, is continuing to grow. Seven months before the exhibition, the leading one of its kind in Italy and one of the main events in Europe, the leading brands in the security industry have already booked their participation.

The exhibition will feature two major novelties: a more organic layout, with 4 adjoining pavilions, and exhibition areas divided by product type.

Video surveillance and burglar protection will occupy parts of pavilions 5 and 7, with separate areas in the same pavilions dedicated to fire equipment (pav. 5) and drones (pav. 7).
Pavilion 10, on the other hand, will be focusing on passive security and access control, showcasing solutions for every area of application: residential, urban, industrial and commercial. Pavilion 6, finally, in line with the mission of SECURITY, will be hosting the Smart Building Expo, with an expanded focus on the smart city and alternative energy solutions in addition to the smart building itself.

MISSION INTERNATIONALISATION
Meanwhile, the European roadshow showcasing SICUREZZA 2019 to professionals, along with the opportunities offered by the Italian market, continues its journey.

The next stop is at London, where on 19 June, SICUREZZA 2019 will be presenting itself to security professionals and the international press at an informal cocktail evening.

To multiply business opportunities for exhibitors at SICUREZZA 2019, the scouting initiative which will bring top hosted buyers, selected for their spending potential and geographical origin (Europe, Balkans; Mediterranean basin, Middle East, Maghreb, Russia and ex-CSI countries), has also started. Thanks to My Matching, Fiera Milano’s online match-making service, exhibitors and buyers will be able to select and assess business profiles before the event starts, and set up a schedule of appointments for the exhibition itself.

TRAINING: THE KEY TO MEETING SECURITY CHALLENGES
SICUREZZA 2019 will be the showcase for the most innovative solutions currently available on the market, but also an opportunity for updating professional competencies.

This need is increasingly being expressed by industry professionals, faced with a market which never stands still. The convergence between physical and logical security, the integration between technologies, the transition from standalone products to integrated solutions, and the new regulations resulting from the application of the GDPR have completely revolutionised the world of security, demanding new competencies not only from system designers, but also installers.

The technological revolution is ongoing, and while on the one hand it has kept the market alive, keeping turnover up despite the persistence of downpricing, on the other is demands constant training and professional qualification, especially for installers, who have not yet fully understood the combination of opportunities and risks that are emerging in this new scenario.

The use of artificial intelligence and advanced tracking and recognition solutions, based on biometric and other identification data, is making security systems ever more powerful and adaptable to any application, but also more vulnerable, open doors to what is now the true value of any company: its data, its information. And this is not true only of video surveillance, in which the matter of privacy has long been dealt with, but also for residential solutions, from intelligent door panels to domotics, which may become back doors into the home network.

The training programme at SICUREZZA 2019 will be making cyber security and privacy among its main areas of focus. The exhibition’s training programme will deal with topical issues, and in many cases offer training credits issued by the associations of engineers and technical experts.
