Mobile video surveillance market gains momentum

The mobile video surveillance market is projected to grow from USD 2.4 billion in 2022 to USD 3.6 billion by 2027; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.7% during the forecast period. This is according to researchers at Marketsandmarkets, who also say that a number of factors, including increased camera resolution, increasing AI capabilities, and remote monitoring, are making it easier for mobile surveillance integrators to meet the demand from end users to meet their security and operational needs in various types of vehicles including transportation vehicles, police vehicles, and drones.

Increased demand for storage

A general fall in prices of surveillance cameras over time has also resulted in increased adoption worldwide, which, in turn, has created significant demand for storage solutions. The high demand for storage devices can also be attributed to the greater adoption of IP cameras. IP cameras record videos at higher resolutions and framerate. Some cameras simultaneously record sound alongside the video. These factors have increased the storage requirements; hence, storage devices are projected to grow at the highest CAGR during the forecast period.

IP video offer greater flexibility

IP cameras excel in capturing high-definition, high-framerate video. They also offer greater flexibility for interconnectivity with different cameras and expansion in the number of connected cameras. IP security cameras transmit data through encryption and authentication methods, such as WEP, WPA, WPA2, TKIP, and AES. IP cameras can also be connected wirelessly with an NVR. These cameras also offer remote access; they can be monitored from any computer anywhere in the world and many mobile devices, including smartphones and laptops. Owing to the increased capabilities of IP cameras and digital recording capabilities, many companies and organisations are switching to IP-based camera systems.

Strong demand in military & defence vertical

In military & defence, drones can be easily deployed and integrated into the Command, Control, Communications, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) system. They have simple operational and maintenance procedures with high tactical capabilities. They are versatile and can carry out a variety of missions, such as mountain search and rescue, illegal traffic monitoring, support to ground forces, and intelligence operations. Mobile video surveillance is widely used in the military and aerospace segment for different applications, such as patrolling national borders (border security) and search and rescue missions. In addition, mobile video surveillance controls the entry of refugees in crucial areas, such as military base camps and border areas, monitors peace treaties, provides security perimeters around the base camps and embassies (perimeter security), and ensures resource exploration and target tracking.

Geographically APAC shows best growth potential

The market in the Asia Pacific is expected to be growing at the highest CAGR during the forecast period. Early adoption of new technologies, such as cameras, wireless connectivity, and integrated analytics for DVRs and NVRs, has resulted in the rising adoption of mobile video surveillance systems in the Asia Pacific. Also, government initiatives toward making cities safer against terrorists; high expenditure on security equipment; availability of low-cost mobile video surveillance systems by local manufacturers; and high demand for IP systems in transportation, law enforcement, and military & defence verticals are driving the growth of the Chinese mobile video surveillance market.

Rise of the video analytics market to $20.3 billion by 2027

The latest information from research firm, Marketsandmarkets, shows that the global video analytics market is projected to grow from USD 7.1 billion in 2022 to USD 20.3 billion by 2027, at a compound annual growth rate of 23.4% during the forecast period. According to analysts, the growth of the video analytics market can be attributed to government initiatives in adopting emerging technologies to enhance public safety infrastructure. Moreover, a significant drop in crime rate due to surveillance cameras is fuelling the growth of the video analytics market.

Intrusion management involves monitoring incidents, such as intrusions in outdoor areas and perimeters, by deploying intrusion detection systems. Intrusion systems integrated with video analytics offer accurate and automated surveillance. Suppose an intruder breaks a pre-defined security rule. In that case, the automated intrusion management system generates a real-time alarm and a video of the event. It sends it to the VMS, allowing the concerned authorities to deliver fast and precise responses.

Cloud is a most prolific deployment model

The cloud segment is expected to account for a higher CAGR growth during the forecast period. Cloud deployment is offered through the internet and is hosted on the vendor’s server. Cloud-based video analytics is delivered through Video Analytics-as-a-Service (VAaaS). On the cloud infrastructure, VAaaS provides improved accuracy, real-time monitoring and alerts, real-time operations, better utilization of staff members, multiple deployment types based on client requirements, cloud data availability, and upgradation functionality.

Geographically North America takes the lead

The North American market, defined as the US and Canada, tops the world in terms of the presence of security vendors and the occurrence of security breaches. Therefore, the research suggests that the global video analytics market is dominated by North America, as it is considered the most advanced region regarding technology adoption and infrastructure. The growing concerns about protecting critical infrastructure and national borders have increased government intervention in recent years. Specific budget allocations, such as for the Department of Homeland Security and mandated security policies, are expected to make North America the most lucrative market for vendors from various verticals.

Major market players

Some of the major video analytics market vendors mentioned in the new report include Avigilon, Axis Communications, Cisco, Honeywell, IBM, Allgovision, Genetec, Intellivision, Gorilla Technology, and Intuvision.

SALTO achieves Secure Connected Device accreditation for IoT products

SALTO Systems has become one of the first electronic access control manufacturers to achieve Secured by Design’s new “Secure Connected Device” accreditation for IoT products.

With the Government soon to introduce new legislation in the shape of the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Bill, coupled with growing demand from Industry and current members seeking to gain accreditation for IoT products, Secured by Design has launched a new ‘Secure Connected Device’ accreditation scheme.

The new scheme enables companies providing IoT-connected products and services to demonstrate that their products have achieved the appropriate and relevant IoT standards and certifications from a Secured by Design recognized certification body.

Working closely with certification bodies who assess IoT products and services against all 13 provisions of the ETSI EN 303 645 standards, Secured by Design’s IoT device assessment identifies the level of risk associated with an IoT device and its ecosystem, providing recommendations on the appropriate certification routes.

The requirements to obtain the Secure Connected Device accreditation are:

  • IoT products and services need to have achieved the appropriate and relevant IoT standards and certifications conducted by a Secured by Design recognized certification body
  • The certificate needs to be assessed against all 13 provisions of the ETSI EN 3030 645, which goes beyond the three provisions legislated by the UK Government
  • The assessment is required to have been done hands-on by the certifying bodies – Secured by Design does not accept self-assessed certificates
  • The IoT product or service needs to be assessed on an annual basis (every 12 months)

SALTO Systems Ltd MD Ramesh Gurdev says, “Achieving this new “Secure Connected Device” accreditation with Secured by Design demonstrates to current and potential customers that SALTO connected products continue to meet the highest security standards.”

About Secured by Design (SBD):

Secured by Design (SBD) is the official police security initiative that works to improve the security of buildings and their immediate surroundings to provide safe places to live, work, shop, and visit.
