MADE EXPO, SICUREZZA AND SMART BUILDING EXPO TOGETHER AT FIERA MILANO: THREE PROJECTS, ONE SINGLE GOAL

Digitisation and sustainability, the two pillars of the Italian Recovery Plan, are at the center of the three events that this upcoming November will offer a comprehensive preview of the materials, technologies and regulations for the building and urban sector.

Milan, 12 July 2021 – The same inauguration date, one admission ticket valid for all events, but, above all, the same goal: working as a team, exploiting potential synergies, and meeting the needs of companies and sector’s operators, especially international buyers who are more interested than ever in optimising time and resources at this particular time.

This is what MADE expo, the leading event in Italy for the construction sector; SICUREZZA, the biennial international event in the security & fire; and SMART BUILDING EXPO, the home and building automation and technological integration expo, will present to the market in an unprecedented combo events. In fact, all of three will start simultaneously at Fiera Milano (Rho) on 22 November 2021. However, while SICUREZZA and SBE will take place from the 22nd to the 24th, MADE Expo will last an extra day, until 25 November, confirming its traditional four-day term.

The three events will be held in the eastern section of the Fiera Milano district, logistically closest to the subway and train station, featuring a total of 7 pavilions: 1,2,3, and 4 for MADE Expo; 5,7, and 10 for SICUREZZA and SMART BUILDING EXPO.

CONTENT AND SUPPLY CHAIN SYNERGIES
Logistics coordination, but also – and above all – coordinated strategy and content.
We live in times that are increasingly interconnected between sectors, especially when it comes to the building sector. The new BIM platform design approach imposes coordination in the construction of a building.

In the context of this process of change now irreversible and in constant progression, the three events introduce themselves as a team supply chain project: a unique opportunity for designers and installers to discover and review in depth, in a single location, the opportunities and challenges that systems, plants, products and regulations will have to face in the upcoming recovery phase.

In fact, the overall exhibition will present every novelty in the building sector, from materials, windows and doors and casings to plant engineering, home automation and security&fire systems. Products that can comprehensively meet the needs of construction companies, plant engineers, and designers.

There will also be a cross-thematic focus representing the heart of both the exhibition and its educational aspects. There are two topics, in particular, that will be explored by each exhibition: digitisation and sustainability, especially in terms of energy. These topics are revolutionising every sector and in this particular moment are the driving force for the recovery, as they are two of the pillars on which the Italian Recovery Plan is based that every company and professional must necessarily keep in sight in the coming months.

From The Place to Build at MADE expo, to the Milano Smart City Conference at SBE, through to the Cyber Security Talk of the Cyber Arena at SICUREZZA, just as a few examples, the events will outline the scenarios, trends, challenges and opportunities from a digital and sustainable perspective offering an expanded dialogue on the development potential that the recovery – supported by an ambitious investment programme that is unique in terms of scope and objectives – may represent for each sector and their professionals.

Digitisation and innovation, in terms of processes, products and services, will in fact be determining factors in the transformation each Country is called upon to achieve in the coming years and the technological offer in display at MADE Expo, SICUREZZA and SMART BUILDING EXPO may lead to developments in various sectors, primarily in the construction one, where the transition towards smart building – and consequently the smart city – is starting to become a reality.

The appointment is at Fiera Milano from 22 to 24 November 2021 for SICUREZZA and SMART BUILDING EXPO and from 22 to 25 November for MADE expo.

IDB, III and asmag.com hold successful webinar on AI

To promote AI and introduce exceptional Taiwan AI solutions providers to the international stage, Taiwan’s Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) and Institute for Information Industry (III) recently held a webinar, “Result-focused AI: Examples from the Field.” asmag.com was glad to be a co-organizer. The event had its successful run in the afternoon of June 30.

The organizer, IDB, is committed to leading Taiwan’s industrial innovation, upgrade and transformation, with the goal of helping industrial players improve productivity and international competitiveness. With AI becoming a key trend, IDB seeks to help industries transform and overcome their challenges and pain points with AI. To achieve that, IDB introduced a development model that links industry associations and identifies companies with AI technology to explore fields and industries in need of AI applications.

Such an approach has resulted in many successful Taiwan companies specializing in AI. This is the primary reason for IDB holding the webinar, which offers a platform for noteworthy Taiwanese companies to share their solutions and use cases to the rest of the world, including Asia where AI has huge growth potential.

Result-focused AI discussion

The webinar was aimed at highlighting “result-focused AI,” seeking to explore real use cases that are beneficial to end users in certain sectors, including security, smart city and smart transportation. The program featured three speakers with extensive experience in the AI field. They were Patrick Lim, Director of Group Strategy at Ademco Security Group; Steve Hu, Product Manager at Merit LILIN; and Jonny Wu, Director of Imaging System Business Unit at Ability Enterprise.

In his keynote message, Ademco’s Lim pointed to video surveillance as a key driving force of AI in security, which can be well-served by AI detecting suspicious individuals or activities with great accuracy. In his view, AI will see continued growth down the road, achieve overall maturity in handling data privacy laws and will be purpose-built and packaged for ease of deployment.

Lim also shared an example of how AI has helped one of their financial customers solve certain operational and security challenges. “In the past access control was very predictable, with the issuance of cards and all. The company wanted to go contactless yet still manage thousands of staff. So we used a facial recognition system that was able to track if the person was at the right place at the time. Beyond access, we are also working toward a scenario whereby abnormal activities are detected, for example someone loitering in the lift lobby,” Lim said.

Hu of LILIN discussed their AI technology called Aida and shared real-life use cases. Especially in traffic enforcement, the AI can detect illegal right turns, illegal left turns, run on red light and other violations, and notify authorities accordingly. Meanwhile, the company has caught up with the edge AI trend and will roll out NDAA-compliant edge AI cameras supporting Ambarella SoCs, built-in AI GPUs and VPUs and concurrent 4 Yolo v3 models for AI.

“Edge AI will set the trend for next two to three years. Right now we rely on servers with big graphics cards for AI processing. Since LILIN released edge AI cameras, I think this kind of requirement will become less and less. I believe edge will be the future,” Hu said.Related: LILIN seizes AI trend in security and IoT to deliver cutting-edge solutions

Wu of Ability focused his presentation on the applications of AI cameras, of which Ability is a leading manufacturer. “You may ask what’s the benefit of edge AI cameras. The first one is real-time data processing. You don’t have to upload to the cloud or server to run AI, and in the process you can save a lot of labor and operating cost. Edge AI also provides privacy to users. Third, edge AI can help reduce bandwidth consumption, providing only metadata to the cloud,” Wu said.

Use cases are quite diverse. Ability’s smart city surveillance project in Latin America, which leverages an edge-cloud surveillance ecosystem to fight crime, has resulted in a crime rate reduction of 40 percent. In transportation, Ability’s AI cameras integrate with edge servers that transmit metadata to the cloud, which then controls traffic signals based on the traffic condition that the camera sees. In electric vehicle charging station management, the AI camera identifies an EV based on its plate and guides it to the charging station space; fuel-based vehicles approaching the space will be warned.Related: Ability puts intelligence on the edge, touts AI potential in Asia

The event concluded with the three speakers sharing their views and use cases on AI, the influence of which will only grow in the near future. It is expected, then, that under the AI trend, more companies will put in efforts into AI research and development and achieve success in Asia and other parts of the world.

The security industry is currently experiencing a growth. The drastic increase in teleworking has fuelled the IT security market in particular. Companies want to rely on home offices on a permanent basis and must invest in a secure digital infrastructure. At the same time, the protection of highly sensitive areas such as clinics, pharmaceutical companies or vaccination centres has become more relevant. The desire of the security industry to be able to meet and exchange ideas in person again is great – the best conditions, therefore, for Security Essen. After a break due to the pandemic, it will offer the security industry a top-class presentation platform from 20 to 23 September 2022 at Messe Essen. Innovations and new products in the field of electronic and mechanical security technology are just as much the focus as cyber security and fire protection. The extensive accompanying program guarantees new input and profitable contacts.

“The topic of safety affects numerous areas of life and work and has taken on new dimensions. The industry therefore has a great need to exchange ideas in person and to present new products. We are pleased to once again be able to provide a top-class platform for this with Security Essen. The measures to combat the Corona pandemic are taking effect, so that we can plan a fair with an international orientation for autumn 2022”, Oliver P. Kuhrt, Managing Director of Messe Essen, looks ahead to the coming event. Around 500 exhibitors are expected at the new start, more than half of them from abroad. Divided into the areas of video; access, mechatronics, mechanics, systems & perimeter; fire, burglary & systems as well as services & digital networking security, the entire spectrum of the security industry will be represented.

One fair – many options
Interested exhibitors have various options for becoming part of Security Essen – whether individually with their own stand or on a joint stand. Companies wishing to participate for the first time can book a time- and cost-saving complete package. This includes, among other things, stand construction, 20 admission tickets for customers and a discount on advertising space in the fairground.
Young founders from Germany receive funding from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy if they participate in the joint stand of the “Young Innovative Companies”. International start-ups can secure a place in the “International Start-up Area” and thus easily address potential investors and customers of tomorrow.
The registration forms are now available at www.security-essen.de.

Target group-specific fair programme
