Euro Defence Expo (EUDEX), the new international trade fair for the defence industry, will take place from September 22 to 25, 2026, at Messe Essen. With one year still to go, more than 80 exhibitors from twelve countries have already confirmed their participation, including Belgium, Germany, India, the Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine, and the United States. OpenAI and Meta Introduce New Safeguards for Teen Users

OpenAI and Meta have announced updates to the way their AI chatbots operate in order to better protect teenagers and users showing signs of emotional or mental distress. OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, said parents will soon be able to link their own accounts to their teenager’s profile. This will allow them to disable specific features and receive alerts whenever the system detects that their child may be experiencing acute emotional distress.

The company also emphasized that, regardless of a user’s age, the most sensitive conversations will be redirected to more advanced AI models designed to provide higher-quality and more appropriate responses.

These measures come shortly after the parents of 16-year-old A.R. from California filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, alleging that ChatGPT played a role in their son’s suicide. While experts caution that such cases cannot simply be attributed to the technology itself, companies say the new safeguards are meant to create a safer digital environment—particularly for younger users.

WhatsApp fixes security flaw in iOS and macOS apps

WhatsApp has released fixes for a critical vulnerability in its iOS and macOS apps that may have been exploited in targeted attacks. The flaw, tracked as CVE-2025-55177, stemmed from insufficient authorization in linked device synchronization and was discovered by WhatsApp’s internal security team. Meta said the bug could have allowed attackers to process malicious content from arbitrary URLs on a victim’s device.
The issue affected WhatsApp for iOS before version 2.25.21.73, WhatsApp Business for iOS 2.25.21.78, and WhatsApp for Mac 2.25.21.78, all patched in late July and early August. Researchers believe the weakness may have been chained with CVE-2025-43300, a zero-day in Apple’s ImageIO framework that was recently exploited to target individuals.

Amnesty International reported that WhatsApp has alerted certain users who may have been targeted in spyware campaigns over the past three months. The company advised affected individuals to perform a full device reset and ensure their operating system and apps remain updated. “This is a classic example of a zero-click attack, where no user interaction is needed to compromise a device,” said Donncha Ó Cearbhaill, head of Amnesty International’s Security Lab. He warned that this spyware continues to pose serious risks to journalists, activists, and human rights defenders.

Italy Tests New Surveillance System to Catch Drivers Overtaking on Solid Lines

According to Italian media, a new traffic surveillance system called the “sorpassometro” (officially SV3) has been introduced and is being tested in the country to detect illegal overtaking on road sections marked with solid lines.This device complements speed cameras and average-speed monitoring systems, but unlike them, it does not measure speed or average speed — instead, it specifically targets overtaking violations where such maneuvers are strictly prohibited.

The “sorpassometro” operates through a combination of road-embedded sensors and cameras. Once a violation is detected, the system automatically transmits the vehicle’s information together with video evidence to the authorities, who then issue a penalty notice to the vehicle’s owner. These devices are most often installed in areas with reduced visibility or near so-called blind curves, where risky overtaking can lead to serious consequences.

One of the first “sorpassometro” units was installed in early August in Calabria, in the province of Cosenza, along the SS18 highway, a road notorious for reckless driving maneuvers and frequent accidents. It records 15-second video clips as indisputable evidence of violations, enabling authorities to sanction reckless drivers more effectively and strengthen accident prevention. Penalties range from monetary fines and penalty points on the driver’s license to license suspension in more severe cases.
