Motorola Invests in Strategic Alliances for Drone Technology

Motorola Solutions has made investments in Brinc and Skysafe, forming strategic alliances to integrate Drone as First Responder (DFR) and drone detection technologies into its 911 command centre solution, Commandcentral, and expand the companies’ go-to-market opportunities. With more than 60% of North America’s public safety answering points (PSAP) already relying on Motorola Solutions’ 911 command centre software, this collective U.S.-made offering enables public safety agencies to seamlessly introduce drones to help protect the public’s safety and security.

“With over 240 million 911 calls made each year, a faster response time to the call can be the consequential difference in an emergency,” said Mahesh Saptharishi, executive vice president and chief technology officer, Motorola Solutions. “We’re integrating the powerful capabilities of drones into 911 software, enabling precious time saved to deliver that life-saving medicine or give officers eyes and ears on scene before they arrive.”

Drones as first responders

Brinc allows 911 call handlers to immediately dispatch drones in response to emergency calls or with the push of a button from a Motorola Solutions APX Next smart radio. According to the company, some 911 calls can be cleared solely with drones, which Motorola Solutions expects to augment with “Assist for 911,” its AI application that can automate incident analysis and help determine when a DFR-based response is appropriate.

“Of equal importance to the public’s safety is managing the growing threat of unauthorised drones,” Saptharishi said. “Greater security for our airspace is an imperative to safeguard our critical infrastructure, borders and communities. This alliance also brings drone detection to the screens of 911 and command centre operators across the nation.”

Airspace security

Skysafe can track and identify a drone, its operator’s location and real-time flight path and historical data. With Skysafe’s cloud-based SaaS platform, customers can have a reliable airspace security solution that requires no hardware or infrastructure investment. The company predicts the number of consumer drones in the U.S. can rise into the millions, highlighting the scale of risk that unauthorised drones potentially pose.

The new streams of drone intelligence enabled through these integrations can be streamed live into the command centre and shared with officers in the field on in-vehicle computers or mobile devices. It can further be stored in agencies’ evidence management systems as part of Motorola Solutions’ ecosystem of safety and security technologies. Agencies can combine other incident data, such as 911 call records, officers’ radio dialogue, officers’ location information and more, for comprehensive analysis and evidence, including AI-based redaction to protect privacy.

ASSA ABLOY Acquires Pedestal Pro in the US

ASSA ABLOY has acquired Pedestal Pro, a US manufacturer of access control pedestals, bollards, and innovative mounting solutions.

This acquisition delivers on our strategy to strengthen our position in mature markets through adding complementary products and solutions to our core business,” says Nico Delvaux, President and CEO of ASSA ABLOY.

“Pedestal Pro is an established innovator that seamlessly integrates design, architectural elements, and access control technology, and I am excited for them to be part of ASSA ABLOY,” says Lucas Boselli, Executive Vice President of ASSA ABLOY and Head of the Americas Division. “Their product portfolio enhances our offering for electromechanical solutions and solidifies our position as a go-to partner for access control equipment manufacturers, system integrators, and security professionals.”

Pedestal Pro was founded in 2002 and has some 50 employees. The main office and factory are located in Lindon, Utah, USA.

Sales for 2024 amounted to about MUSD 11 with a good EBIT margin. The acquisition will be accretive to EPS from the start.

Motorola to Acquire Invisit

Motorola Solutions has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Invisit, a cloud-based visitor management solution provider, based in Calabasas, California. The acquisition will expand Motorola Solutions’ cloud-native Avigilon Alta security suite for enterprise customers, helping to better tackle rising security threats on people, operations and assets in organisations worldwide.

Invisit offers a flexible and scalable solution to manage visitors across various sectors, including commercial offices, multi-tenant buildings, education and healthcare. The solution is designed to address the complexities and compliance requirements of large organisations with multiple locations.

“Managing visitors presents building teams with a myriad of operational and security challenges,” said Mahesh Saptharishi, executive vice president and chief technology officer, Motorola Solutions. “With this acquisition, we’re continuing to enhance the guest experience while delivering the clarity enterprises need to help keep people safe, places secure and operations running efficiently. And this is all with the flexibility, scalability and accessibility that a unified cloud-native suite can provide to organizations from any place at any time.”

Invisit helps organisations answer questions about a visitor’s identity, whether they should be granted access based on a variety of factors including risk, and who is in the building in the event of an emergency; not just for employees and service providers, but for the constant flow of visitors.

Streamlines visitor management

Invisit streamlines many aspects of visitor management, including guest registration, guest access and host notification, and provides real-time insights on guest activity. It also improves safety and security through blocklist screening to help prevent unauthorised building access and can help to quickly identify and account for all visitors on site in case of an emergency.

Invisit is available in the Avigilon Alta App Marketplace, enabling simple flexibility for customers to add the feature to their enterprise security suite, which can be managed from their mobile device.

The transaction is expected to close in Q2 2025, following satisfaction of closing conditions. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Change of Management of TOA Electronics Europe

TOA Electronics Europe GmbH announces a new management for TOA in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

As of April 1, 2025, Mr. Kosuke Tanaka will take over as General Manager of EMEA Business Department and Managing Director of TOA Electronics Europe (TEE). CERTINA Group acquires 65% in MOBOTIX AG

Konica Minolta has announced the sale of its entire 65% stake in MOBOTIX, along with all associated shareholder loans, to Certina Software Investments AG, a subsidiary of the Munich-based family equity investor Certina Group. The Certina Software Division, part of Certina Group, specializes in the development and expansion of technology-driven businesses worldwide.

As part of the agreement, Certina has committed to maintaining an investment credit line of €53.2 million, which will extend through March 2026. The purchase price has not been disclosed, including to the company itself. The closing of the transaction is expected to occur in May 2025, subject to customary antitrust clearance.

Strategic Acquisition

The divestment is part of Konica Minolta’s medium-term plan to divest from non-core businesses and focus on its core business areas globally, as outlined in a recent statement. Konica Minolta’s Imaging-IoT Solutions business will continue to provide highly value-added video solution services, with a focus on security and safety.

“The acquisition of MOBOTIX is a strategic step to further strengthen our software investments and underlines our long-term growth ambitions in our Group,” comments Tobias Eiblmeier, Head of Mergers and Acquisitions at the Certina Group.

New board to come, CTO and CFO remain the same

It is anticipated that all current members of the supervisory board of MOBOTIX will resign upon the closing of the transaction. Certina intends to ensure appropriate representation on the Supervisory Board of MOBOTIX AG.

Additionally, key leadership updates include that Klaus Kiener (CFO) and Christian Cabirol (CTO) have extended their contracts until March 2027, ensuring continuity in financial and technological leadership.

Thomas Lausten leaves MOBOTIX

Thomas Lausten, the CEO, will leave MOBOTIX by mutual agreement at the end of his current contract in June 2025, collaborating closely with the new leadership team to facilitate a smooth transition.
