ISE announces three-month postponement

After consultation with the ISE exhibitor and visitor community and in the light of the increasing impact of the Omicron variant in Spain, Integrated Systems Events announces that ISE 2022, scheduled for 1-4 February, has been postponed and will now take place on 10-13 May 2022 at the Fira de Barcelona Gran Vía.

Mike Blackman, Managing Director of Integrated Systems Events, said today: “We’ve been closely monitoring the conditions in Europe and have been working hard on your behalf to balance health and safety concerns with the need for commerce and in-person interaction. It’s been a challenging time for so many over the past two years, and whilst we cannot wait to meet up with everyone at ISE 2022, listening to our exhibitors, owners and stakeholders, we have agreed the best course of action is to postpone the show edition for three months.

David Labuskes, CEO, AVIXA commented: “While balancing the commitment to both commerce and gathering has been difficult in these uncertain times, we believe the postponement of the ISE show until May does just that. Our community hungers for the opportunity to reconvene in 2022. This schedule makes that all the more possible for all of us. Beginning with ISE, we are looking forward to the summer of AV where we will have the opportunity to come together at InfoComm in June and InfoComm Beijing in July – it could not be a better way to gather and reinforce the opportunities and success for our industry.”

We look forward to making this event a success and would like to thank our stakeholders – exhibitors, sponsors, visitors, media partners, contractors, and the team at FIRA Barcelona – for continuing to support us through this difficult and ever-changing situation.

Integrated Systems Europe, ISE 2022, will take place at the Fira de Barcelona Gran Vía on 10-13 May 2022. The ISE Conference programme runs from Monday 9 May through to Friday 13 May 2022. For more information, please visit www.iseurope.org.

Providing a practical solution

Tony Holloway, Business Development Manager at 360 Vision Technology discusses how thermal imaging technology is supporting effective high-end security.

The strength of thermal imaging lies in proactive surveillance where its deployment is used as an early warning mechanism for approaching people or objects, mechanical failure or process control issues. Thermal cameras are an ideal first line of defense in terms of detection capability and, in the world of high security visual imaging and threat detection, the technology is playing an important role in protecting infrastructure and people. For many years, there has been debate over the value of thermal imaging vs. cost. However, in recent times, things have changed significantly. Today, the technology is much more affordable, with some thermal imaging cameras available at comparable cost to quality professional video surveillance cameras. With affordable thermal imaging now available, the technology is on the agenda for a much larger number of sites and applications.

Thermal technology background

Operating in the lower infra-red part of the spectrum, at longer wavelengths than visible light, thermal images are produced by representing the differences in thermal radiation, or ‘heat signatures’, emitted or reflected by all objects within a field of view; using this differential information to produce high contrast images suitable for effective target detection, security personnel can detect a target of interest (such as a person or vehicle) and take early action for intervention. Thermal imaging security cameras can operate in zero lighting conditions, offering situational awareness and enabling a surveillance system operator to ‘see’ what the human eye cannot, even in complete darkness. Looking at the technology, we can group thermal imaging cameras into two main categories: cooled and uncooled. Cooled thermal cameras offer the ultimate performance in terms of signal-to-noise ratio, delivering around three to four times the sensitivity of uncooled thermal cameras. Their higher sensitivity and longer focal length lenses enable detection and identification of objects over much greater target distances compared to that of uncooled devices. However, the cost of cooled thermal cameras far exceeds that of their uncooled counterparts and therefore rules them out of most enterprises’ available budgets.

Uncooled thermal technology (9Hz)

For most high-end security and commercial applications, the deployment of professional quality uncooled thermal imaging cameras, available at an affordable cost, brings the benefit of useable long-range detection into the grasp and consideration for many organizations where the advantages and availability of 9Hz thermal camera technology can provide an effective solution. Suitable for use within fixed fence line and large, wide-open spaces, thermal camera technology can be deployed in a diverse range of scenarios and applications; this provides a powerful situational awareness and detection tool for the vast majority of high-end security requirements to identify targets of interest at a distance. Whether the need is for security, safety or equipment protection, critical infrastructure, borders, perimeters, utility sites, airports, bridges, ports and more can all be protected. In fact, anywhere where long-range open area detection is needed, uncooled 9Hz thermal cameras can provide a practical solution.

Detection, Recognition and Identification

The detection of a potential threat by a thermal imaging camera is the first step. Once an object of interest is detected, it must be identified and its threat level assessed. Without clear, long-range visual analysis of detected threats (on land or water), surveillance system operators will not be able to distinguish between a false alarm or an alert that requires immediate intervention. As already discussed, thermal imaging cameras detect people or objects by the differential heat signature for the Detection, Recognition and Identification (DRI) fulfilment of a target. However, it’s desirable, from a systems perspective, to use a combination of camera types as thermal alone does not provide the type of evidential images we are familiar with within the visual surveillance spectrum. As an example, a thermal camera could be used to detect long-range threats and activate an alarm trigger to a VMS. In response to the alarm event, an HD surveillance camera could be automatically directed to optically view the object detected as it continues to approach a site. To fulfil the above surveillance detection and imaging scenario, 360 Vision Technology’s range of Predator PTZ and Eclipse static uncooled thermal imaging cameras employ ‘dual’ camera technology, within an ‘all-in-one’ housing. The camera combination of thermal and optical HD surveillance technology delivers high resolution images in all environments and is effective through smoke, dust, light fog, haze and complete darkness. ONVIF compatible, the cameras can be easily integrated into third-party VMS control platforms and advanced analytics. With a thermal imaging range of up to 2.5kms (person detection), 360 Vision Technology’s thermal technology can be used to easily detect vehicles, vessels and persons of interest. In addition to this, thermal imaging cameras can also be applied to applications such as process control, for example to detect excessive heat in pipelines, failing electrical insulators or elevated temperature exceptions, not to mention waste recycling/ processing early combustion detection applications.

Fiera Milano: More than 45,000 Visitors at Made Expo, Sicurezza and Smart Building Expo

Successful synergy between the fairs, for the first time at the same time. More than 700 companies took part in this event dedicated to the building industry

Milan, 26 November 2021. Technology, sustainability, innovation in building materials, cyber security, artificial intelligence, digitalisation: these are the drivers of the 2021 edition of MADE expo, SICUREZZA and SMART BUILDING EXPO that attracted 45,516 professional visitors.

The three events, held at the same time for the first time, gave an all-round view of materials, technologies and regulations for the building and urban environment with over 700 companies present.

SICUREZZA and SMART BUILDING EXPO showcased the best in security, fire prevention and systems solutions that make buildings and cities smart. Artificial intelligence, deep learning, integration between technologies that become components of highly advanced platforms for the management of the home and the entire building, benches that are transformed into tools for recharging bicycles and electric scooters, but also in reception and protection areas, where video surveillance and sound systems allow immediate contact with the police in the event of danger: on show were the results of the research and development of a sector that in the last two years has never stopped, but has effectively contributed to the return to the new normality.

On the other hand, MADE expo was the right showcase for presenting highly innovative construction products to the trade. One of the most innovative, and with a strong sustainability component, are bonds capable of trapping pollutants and purifying the air through a photosynthesis process similar to that of plants. In addition, sound-absorbing and soundproofing panels made entirely of 100% recyclable plastic. Then there is also room for technological innovation thanks to structures with anti-seismic properties able to absorb the oscillations of buildings in the event of an earthquake.

“These simultaneous events all had a common denominator: the positive response from the public and companies” says Luca Palermo, CEO and General Manager of Fiera Milano. “Exhibiting companies reported that visitors to the three events were of a high quality. The presence of international visitors was also significant, with 94 countries represented during the course of the exhibition. Lastly, the simultaneous nature of the fairs was also a success. The objective of working as a team, exploiting potential synergies in the supply chain and in content, was largely achieved. We live in an era of increasing interconnection between sectors and trade fairs must increasingly play the role of an accelerator of business opportunities also by fostering these connections”.

Connections that developed mainly through the rich schedule of events. More than 150 training meetings have been held in recent days: from the sustainability of renovation work to cyber security, passing through professional certification, regulations, the evolution of the smart city and topics related to incentives, super bonuses and concessions. All the events were a confirmation of the fair’s role as a business opportunity, but also as a training hub capable of interpreting the evolution of the market.

The next events, which will always be held at the same time, will be held at Fiera Milano from 15 to 17 November 2023 for SICUREZZA and SMART BUILDING EXPO and from 15 to 18 November 2023 for MADE expo.
