Melbourne Airport First with New Scanner Technology

Melbourne Airport, in partnership with Smiths Detection, has gone ‘live’ with the latest checkpoint screening technology featuring Computed Tomography (CT) X-ray in Terminal 4. The technology allows laptops and liquids to remain in bags and has been a huge success with travellers since Melbourne Airport first ran a trial in 2018.

This implementation marks Melbourne Airport as the first major airport in Australia to adopt and deploy the latest CT screening systems at its checkpoints. The domestic terminal currently features four new security lanes made up of carry-on baggage scanners, Hi-Scan 6040 CTiX, automated tray return system, Ilane.Evo, and screening management platform, Checkpoint.Evoplus, all designed to improve speed and security of the checkpoint screening process. Two additional units in T4 and another seven in T2, are expected to be completed over the next two months.

“Our pilot programme with Smiths Detection was a huge success with passengers, giving us the confidence to enhance our security screening operations using CT technology based systems that are compliant with the Australian government regulations,” said Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation, Andrew Gardiner. “We’ve partnered with Smiths Detection for over 10 years and we look forward to our continued partnership in shaping a better overall experience for our passengers.”

Scott Dullard, Head of Security & Emergency, Aviation for Melbourne Airport said, “The introduction of CT Technology at screening checkpoints is a great example of technology enabling two strategic focus areas for Melbourne Airport: security outcomes and passenger experience. The new technology allows analysis of 3D images, improving security outcomes by providing security staff with greater detail, and functionality to conduct their assessments. The solution also benefits passengers, as CT allows everything to stay in your bag, including laptops, resulting in a quicker screening process. Overall, we are seeing a 50 per cent reduction in passenger journey time, down to a little more than a minute.”

Fujifilm and Videotec Join Forces to Offer a Solution for Advanced Long-range Surveillance Applications

Fujifilm and Videotec announce a new collaboration, integrating top-performance products to supply an innovative solution for accurate long-range surveillance. This solution is ideal for protecting critical infrastructure and transportation networks, including airports, harbours, highways, borders and the environment.

The combined system incorporates Fujifilm’s new high-end SX800 camera into Videotec’s ULISSE MAXI PTZ. Integrating the SX800 camera into the robust and precise ULISSE MAXI positioning unit is simple and fast, resulting in a first-class PTZ camera system for monitoring perimeters and extensive outdoor areas.

The sturdy mechanical structure and the powerful motors of the ULISSE MAXI PTZ are designed to guarantee maximum resistance to high operating stress, vibrations and to withstand harsh weather conditions. The unit is equipped with a wiper for removing rain and dust from the front glass.

The SX800 camera lens offers a 40x optical zoom, perfectly managed by the ULISSE MAXI, that covers a broad range of focal lengths from 20 mm on the wide-angle end to 800 mm on the telephoto end, constantly providing sharp images and detailed closeups. It is complemented with 1.25x digital zoom to achieve long-range surveillance equivalent to 1000 mm in focal length. The built-in image stabiliser accurately compensates for camera movement, typically caused by gusts of wind or structure vibrations. The system is particularly effective when shooting in the ultra-telephoto range, which is susceptible to even the smallest movement. With a highly sensitive sensor and advanced noise reduction, the SX800 can shoot clear footage with minimal noise even in low-light conditions. The advanced de-fog function brings vivid clarity to hazy images caused by light diffusion due to mist and dust.

Alessio Grotto, President of Videotec said, “Our ULISSE MAXI coupled with Fujifilm’s SX800 is the perfect solution when operating cameras in the most challenging environments, and to get the best possible image quality while meeting the needs of the most demanding applications.”

Intersec, Light Middle East, and Prolight + Sound Middle East to Run Side-by-side in January 2021

Messe Frankfurt Middle East, the regional subsidiary of Messe Frankfurt, one of the world’s largest trade fair, congress and event organisers, is to co-locate three of its exhibitions in Dubai to capitalise on visitor and exhibitor synergies.

Light Middle East, the region’s premier exhibition, conference and awards for lighting design and technology; Prolight + Sound Middle East, the dedicated exhibition and conference for Professional Lighting, Audio and AV Technology; and Intersec, the world’s leading trade fair for security, safety and fire protection, will now run side-by-side at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 24-26 January, 2021.

“This is a strategic move to maximise visitor and exhibitor turnout as all three shows share a similar visitor appeal, whether system integrators, installers, specifiers, or consultants,” explained Simon Mellor, CEO of Messe Frankfurt Middle East.

“With all three shows taking place at the same time, exhibitors will meet a more focussed audience and visitors will be able to take in the entire integration range under one roof. We’re creating a powerful event alignment featuring more than 1,700 exhibitors from 60 countries.”

The alignment of Intersec, Light Middle East, and Prolight + Sound Middle East follows a visitor survey of all three events which clearly demonstrated an appetite for the co-location.

More than 1,500 of the Intersec 2019 visitors expressed an interest to visit Light Middle East, while a further 1,125 would also be keen to stop by Prolight + Sound Middle East. Similarly, a large percentage of Prolight and Light Middle East visitors voiced their intent to visit Intersec.

Nour Assafiri, CEO of Venuetech, a Light Middle East Gold Sponsor and exhibitor at Prolight + Sound Middle East, believes the move to co-locate the three events will deepen the product and service offerings for visitors.

“Many of our clients already attend Intersec and our sales teams make the trip down there when the show is on. There’s definitely a cross over for us, especially in the audio/visual space and it will allow us a better platform for us to interact and build relations with existing and prospective customers.

Hikvision Begins Manufacturing in India

Prama Hikvision, a joint venture between Hikvision and an Indian company, inaugurated India’s largest and first manufacturing facility located at Vasai near Mumbai. В.К. Saraswat (Member, Niti Aayog and former Director-General of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and former Chief Scientific Advisor to the Indian Minister of Defense) and Dr. Neeraj Sinha (Adviser, Science & Technology) inaugurated the new facility.

With this new facility, which is part of an investment commitment of US$ 70.9 million, Prama Hikvision will not only be able to cater to a fast-expanding domestic market but also the overseas market in a phased manner. Employing over 2000 skilled and semi-skilled employees, the brown-field facility is spread over 12 acres of land comprising end-to-end production capabilities. An ISO 9001:2015 certified facility, the new factory has the capability to manufacture over 850 product models.

Ashish P. Dhakan, MD and CEO, Prama Hikvision India said, “This new integrated state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is an expression of our full commitment to the Government of India’s flagship ‘Make in India’ program. We have so far invested Rs 500 Crore in this new plant with further investment commitments in the pipeline to ramp up productions, local R&D, skilling and giving back to the communities. This new unit has an installed capacity to make 1.5 million cameras per month. It has nine lines that do surface mount technology level manufacturing and enables us to make electronic chips and cameras locally instead of importing them. To upskill a significant part of the workers in this factory, many of them being unemployed before joining us, we have developed in-house training programs comprising world-class modules thus bringing them into the mainstream socio-economic fold”.

The new facility will make Prama Hikvision the only video surveillance products and solutions brand that is truly made in India. Prama Hikvision has been progressively using printed circuit boards (PCBs) at this new facility to ensure full alignment with the Government of India’s Phased Manufacturing Program (PMP) goals.

With an installed capacity of 1.5 million cameras per month, the facility has the potential to grow at 30 percent year-on-year. With this kind of capacity, Prama Hikvision is already enjoying a market penetration above 35 percent in India.

Comelit Group and Teletek Electronics Combine Strengths

A significant partnership agreement has recently been entered into between the Italian Comelit Group – which operates worldwide in the design and manufacture of video door entry, home automation, video surveillance and access control systems – and the Bulgarian Teletek Electronics company specialising in the development and manufacture of fire detection and anti-intrusion systems.

This agreement comes after a long and fruitful period of collaboration that saw Teletek Electronics develop a complete range of fire detection products and equipment for Comelit. Reciprocal satisfaction and trust from the bases for entering into a new partnership that will see the two companies grow synergistically whilst maintaining their individuality at a strategic, organisational, productive and sales level.

Comelit Group’s CEO, Edward Barzasi, explained in detail the decision to gain a strategic capital shareholding in Teletek Electronics, aimed at maximising the synergies between the two companies, resulting in tangible advantages also in favour of their clientèle.

“This shareholding in the Comelit Group sees us enter the ranks amongst the top technological players in the international market for professional fire alarm and anti-intrusion systems. In fact, in addition to our own know-how, we can now count on Teletek Electronics’ skills, having worked in this specific market for almost 30 years,” says Barzasi. “One benefit of this operation will be Comelit’s quality, with the introduction of innovative solutions that will complement the broad and structured range of anti-intrusion, access control and video surveillance systems already offered. The package of over 2,500 products is flanked by excellent after-sale support services, being the hallmark of our company. For our customers, there is then the certainty of interfacing with a single partner throughout all phases of the purchasing process.”

There is also great satisfaction for Teletek Electronics which—through its founder Valentin Stoitzev, as Chairman of the Board—has announced that the new partnership is perfectly in line with the corporate mission of brand development and market expansion. “This agreement enables Teletek Electronics to increase its investments on several fronts: the internal organisation and strengthening of the sales network in terms of R&D, accelerating the development of new products that will be offered to the market under the Teletek brand.”

Precisely as a function of the significant growth plan for Teletek, also supported by the Comelit Group’s resources, a huge investment has already been planned for the construction of new premises, with an increase in the spaces and doubling of the production capacity in respect of the current situation, to better serve the 75 markets worldwide.

In addition to the synergistic growth, Barzasi and Stoitzev reaffirm the shared intention not to alter the individuality of the two companies, which will maintain their respective brands and commercial structures.

OSSA Celebrates 1st Anniversary

The Open Security & Safety Alliance (OSSA), an industry body comprised of leaders, influencers and innovative organisations from all facets within the security, safety and building automation space, is celebrating its first anniversary. Within the first 12 months, OSSA attracted 30+ members ranging from device manufacturers, software developers and system integrators to distributors and system on a chip (SoC) companies – helping lay the groundwork for improved security, safety, building automation and business intelligence solutions.

“Through OSSA, we have competing and complementary institutions reaching across aisles and stepping outside of their brands to work together to push our whole industry into a new, more prosperous and efficient direction,” said Johan Jubbega, President, Open Security & Safety Alliance. “We’re truly pleased at the progress achieved in just our first year by establishing an open security and safety ecosystem comprised of 30+ renown companies, and having a market-changing digital marketplace and first commercially available video security camera offerings underway for year two as the Alliance continues to provide guidance and interpretation of common standards and specifications to promote more intelligent, productive solutions for users.”

Currently, security and safety solutions are fragmented and there is no collaborative approach to systems working together for bigger-picture success. Large amounts of data are left untapped in siloed systems that through cooperation can instead be utilised for better living, safety and security purposes.

OSSA’s mission is to work with market players to all start from the same ‘recipe’ when it comes to the development, deployment, operation and maintenance of products, software and services. The Alliance’s vision is that the majority of the security and safety industry works with a common, vendor-agnostic operating system (OS) and IoT infrastructure – and agrees to implement or adhere to common approaches defined for common challenges like data security, privacy, product performance and easy consumption of data across multiple solutions. This will substantially fuel usability and trust when it comes to security and safety solutions that are built on the foundations set forth by OSSA. From there, companies can differentiate through apps by way of a collaborative digital marketplace – similar to how we all access/download/use applications between an app store and our smart phones and other digital devices.

Remarkable Progress

Already within its first year, OSSA member companies created the first common Technology Stack specification including the definition of a common operating system for video security devices. They also started to define the common approaches and establishment of a shared IoT infrastructure, including a digital marketplace. This framework allows the trapped – and mostly unused – data captured by any brand of device to be unleashed and available for good purpose. It also reduces friction when conceiving, deploying and maintaining security and safety devices, systems and settings and inspires innovation by opening the doors to data interpretation and possibilities. This platform revolution that OSSA envisions will benefit everyone involved.

The Open Security & Safety Alliance’s five founding companies – Bosch Building Technologies, Hanwha Techwin, Milestone Systems, Pelco and Vivotek Inc – are joined by 25+ other inventive international players that currently comprise the OSSA member roster.
