Honeywell Expands Smart Energy Portfolio with Acquisition of SparkMeter Utility Platforms

Honeywell has expanded its Smart Energy portfolio through the acquisition of three utility platforms from SparkMeter Inc., a leading provider of grid management solutions. The acquisition includes SparkMeter’s intellectual property and certain related assets.

The acquired platforms—Praxis, GridScan, and GridFin—will be integrated into Honeywell Forge Performance+ for Utilities, significantly enhancing its capabilities. Praxis provides data insights and analytics to help utilities modernize and monetize assets, GridScan delivers real-time visibility into the performance and health of distribution grids, while GridFin focuses on financial management and cost optimization.

According to Amol Motivala, president of Honeywell Smart Energy, the acquisition addresses the growing challenges utilities face as energy demand rises. “By combining these SparkMeter technologies with Honeywell Forge Performance+ for Utilities, we will provide advanced tools that automate, simplify, and optimize daily planning, operations, and existing grid assets,” he said.

Honeywell emphasizes that the expansion of its smart energy portfolio will enable utilities to better manage evolving energy demands with more comprehensive data management, business intelligence, and analytics functionality.

The move is part of Honeywell’s broader strategic transformation, which includes the planned spin-offs of its Aerospace Technologies and Solstice Advanced Materials businesses. The company has also pursued an active acquisition strategy since June 2023, completing deals worth $14 billion.

Recent acquisitions include Compressor Controls Corporation, SCADAfence, Civitanavi Systems, CAES Systems, Sundyne, Li-ion Tamer, as well as business units from Carrier Global, Air Products, and Johnson Matthey. In parallel, Honeywell divested its Personal Protective Equipment business to Protective Industrial Products in May 2025.

Motorola Solutions Enhances Reliability of Enea Operator’s Power Grid

Motorola Solutions has announced a contract to deploy a new TETRA land mobile radio communications network for Enea Operator, one of Poland’s leading energy suppliers. The solution will provide reliable and secure voice and data communications between personnel, optimize power grid management, and enhance service reliability for 2.5 million residents across northwestern Poland.

“The continuity of energy supply and services during a crisis depends on failsafe communication between field teams, dispatchers and management staff,” said Magdalena Kordys, Vice President of Finance, Enea Operator. “A communications network independent of commercial operators strengthens our operational resilience and streamlines collaboration with emergency services.”

The new TETRA network integrates a SCADA system to remotely monitor and control grid infrastructure. A network of sensors across the grid will be able to relay critical data to the central monitoring system, using the TETRA network as the secure data pipeline. If an issue or maintenance need is detected, personnel can be immediately notified via radio.

Motorola Solutions will deploy 130 TETRA base stations, modems and digital radios, along with terminals for more than 1,000 technical vehicles, to support the operation of the integrated solution.

Designed for resilience, the TETRA network can operate on an emergency power supply for up to 36 hours in the event of a mass failure or loss of electrical network voltage. “Enea Operator’s investment in modernizing its operations will help safeguard the delivery of electricity to millions of Polish residents,” said Axel Kukuk, Vice President, Sales Europe, Motorola Solutions. “With this contract, three of Poland’s four national energy Distribution System Operators now rely on Motorola Solutions’ mission-critical communications solutions. We are proud to support the delivery of this essential service to homes, businesses, schools and hospitals across the country.”

Ambient System modernizes railway infrastructure in Bulgaria with new digital Voice Alarm Systems

Ambient System, a leading provider of Public Address and Voice Alarm (PAVA) systems, has completed a major project to modernize railway lines in Bulgaria with new digital PAVA systems. The project involved replacing existing, outdated analog PA systems with modern, digital solutions that are compliant with both EN 54 and TSI PRM standards.

The scope of the project included the design and delivery of PAVA systems across several regions, including Sophia, Blagoevgrad, Kostibro and Mezdra. The solution delivered by Ambient System included compact midiVES and miniVES Voice Alarm Systems. These all-in-one control units are designed for versatility and can operate as standalone systems or within a TCP/IP network architecture. The PAVA systems were also integrated with a third-party passenger information system and an IP telephone system.

The entire solution is managed by the Yellow Security System Management Software, which provides comprehensive visualization, remote management and system logging capabilities. New regional control centers were fitted with YELLOW PC workstations to manage the systems.

The new PAVA systems’ primary task is to provide passengers with voice information regarding train timetables, including deviations, as well as to emit general and security messages.

The project also included the deployment of EN 54 certified loudspeakers and System Gateway servers for integration. The system has the ability to be remotely controlled from Operation Control Centers (OCC) and can emit both automatic, passenger information system-generated and manual messages.

VIP areas will benefit from a full smartphone-based access system, enabling guests to manage entry for family and friends directly through iLOQ’s mobile app. Access rights will be controlled centrally, ensuring secure, flexible authorization for players, staff, facility managers, and visitors.

Johnson Controls Finalizes $8.1 Billion HVAC Sale to Bosch

Johnson Controls has officially completed the sale of its Residential and Light Commercial HVAC business to the Bosch Group in an all-cash transaction valued at $8.1 billion. The move marks a strategic shift for Johnson Controls as it sharpens its focus on smart building technologies and service-driven solutions. The company received approximately $5 billion in net cash proceeds after taxes and related expenses.

Included in the deal are the company’s North American ducted HVAC operations and its global residential joint venture with Hitachi, Ltd. Hitachi, however, will retain certain ductless HVAC assets located in Shimizu, Japan. Johnson Controls plans to return part of the proceeds to shareholders through a $5 billion accelerated share repurchase program, expected to begin in the coming weeks.

CEO Joakim Weidemanis described the transaction as a key milestone in the company’s evolution toward becoming a more profitable and innovation-led business. The company also thanked the HVAC team for their contributions and wished them success under Bosch ownership. Financial advisors on the deal included Centerview Partners and Citi, with Simpson Thacher providing legal counsel. “I’m confident in our ability to reach our full potential as a faster-growing, technology-based company that delivers greater value for customers, employees, and shareholders,” said Weidemanis.

Hikvision Introduces New AI-Powered Traffic Cameras and Servers

Hikvision has announced the launch of a new range of traffic cameras and servers powered by advanced large-scale Traffic AI models, designed to enhance traffic safety and reduce false alarms. The new lineup includes incident detection cameras such as the iDS-TCS802-HS, iDS-TCS907-HIR, iDS-TCS917-HI, and iDS-TCS900-HI, alongside servers like the iDS-TSS500-H/16 and iDS-TSS300-H/04.

Using Transformer-based AI architecture with a self-attention mechanism, these devices analyze entire traffic scenes to better understand context, significantly lowering false detections caused by background noise. For example, the seatbelt detection feature reduces false alarms by 75% by evaluating the driver’s posture and visible parts of the seatbelt, even in complex situations like when the belt blends with clothing or has an unusual shape.

Phone use detection is also improved, with the cameras analyzing hand position, driver’s line of sight, and the area near the ear to reduce false positives by 75%. The incident detection cameras achieve a 60% reduction in false alarms for events such as fallen objects, pedestrian detection, and stopped vehicles, while the servers allow users to upgrade existing cameras without the need to install new equipment.

Alarm automatika Successfully Completes EMS Project in Montenegro

Alarm automatika officially celebrated the successful completion of its Energy Monitoring System (EMS) project in Montenegro with a formal handover ceremony held at the Ministry of Energy and Mining in Podgorica.

The EMS project is part of Montenegro’s long-term energy efficiency improvement program, which has been ongoing for several years in multiple phases. In addition to facility renovations, the project involved the development and implementation of a Central Information System for monitoring energy consumption in public buildings — a solution successfully delivered by Alarm automatika.

The system now covers 193 public facilities throughout Montenegro, providing centralized monitoring of electricity and water usage, as well as real-time tracking of carbon emissions (CO₂ footprint).

The official handover on behalf of the Ministry was signed by Božidar Pavlović, Director General of the Directorate for Energy Efficiency, alongside colleagues Đorđina Lovrić and Merisa Zoronjić. Representing Alarm automatika, Project Director Senad Džabija signed the handover, joined by Finance Director Milica Blečić and team members from the company’s Montenegrin office, Mladen Savović and Maida Kurtagić.
