Automation and Monitoring: OPC-UA Integration for Industrial Performance Visualization in AppVision

UltraVision Consult recently completed an advanced OPC-UA integration project for a food manufacturing facility, enabling seamless machine-level automation monitoring directly within the AppVision PSIM platform. The solution consolidates operational data from packaging machines into a single, centralized dashboard and delivers real-time visualizations, performance graphs, interactive timelines, and state-based diagnostics. By combining automation data with security oversight, this project demonstrates how PSIM platforms can bridge industrial and security systems to drive smarter, faster, and safer decision-making in demanding operational environments.

UltraVision Consult successfully implemented a smart automation monitoring solution for a packaging facility by leveraging OPC-UA protocol integration within the AppVision PSIM platform. The project aimed to centralize machine performance data in real time, creating a clear and actionable operational overview that supports both technical response and strategic decision-making.

Through this integration, the live status of every packaging machine is now pulled directly into AppVision. Each machine’s operating state, connection health, and number of processed units in the last three minutes are displayed and continuously updated every 30 seconds. This eliminates the need for scattered PLC interfaces and provides a unified view of the packaging floor, accessible to both facility managers and control room operators.

A custom dashboard was built to present:

  • The current status of each machine
  • A live graph showing production volume over the last three minutes
  • A timeline bar marking operational states (run/stop/error)
  • A pie chart of time spent in each state
  • A live data table with machine-specific metrics

In addition to visualization, the system also includes automated email alerts in case of faults, historical error logging and analysis, and data export tools for traceability and reporting.

The added value of this solution lies in its cross-functional synergy. AppVision is traditionally used for managing alarms, video surveillance, and access control. By integrating with industrial automation systems via OPC-UA, it now empowers decision-makers with real-time operational intelligence within the same security interface.

This level of integration is especially critical in environments where downtime directly impacts output, and where collaboration between IT, OT, and security teams is essential. For the client, the solution not only improves responsiveness during incidents but also provides historical insights that support performance reviews, audits, and preventive maintenance.

UltraVision Consult continues to push the boundaries of what PSIM platforms can achieve by transforming them into central hubs for both physical security and operational excellence.

Biometrics at Airports: e-Gates Coming to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Futuristic Passenger Tunnel in Dubai

Bosnian airports Sarajevo, Mostar, and Banja Luka will soon introduce their first biometric e-gates for electronic passport control. The project, led by IDDEEA in cooperation with the Border Police of BiH and local airport authorities, aims to speed up border crossings and reduce congestion. Sarajevo Airport will provide the technical requirements, while the procurement and integration of equipment will be handled by the Border Police. In the initial phase, the system will be available to BiH citizens, with plans to later expand to foreign travelers.

The main advantage of e-gates is that passage takes only 15 to 30 seconds, significantly easing the workload of officers who can then focus on more complex security checks. Sarajevo Airport is also considering co-financing the project, as improving passenger flow is seen as a strategic priority. With this initiative, Bosnia and Herzegovina is taking an important step toward European aviation standards, following the examples of Zagreb, Belgrade, and major hubs such as Frankfurt and Amsterdam.

Meanwhile, Dubai has gone a step further by launching its “red carpet” tunnel – a biometric corridor that allows passengers to pass without a passport or boarding card. Powered by AI technology and advanced cameras, this world-first system identifies travelers in just 6 to 14 seconds, with up to ten people able to pass simultaneously. Developed by the UAE’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in cooperation with Dubai Airports, the tunnel is currently available at Terminal 3.

Although Dubai International is rolling out cutting-edge AI upgrades, its long-term future is limited, as all operations will eventually move to the new Al Maktoum International Airport. Until then, Dubai remains a global leader in futuristic travel solutions that are redefining the passenger experience.

New Law in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Video Surveillance and Biometrics Under Strict Control

A new Personal Data Protection Law has come into force in Bosnia and Herzegovina, marking the fulfillment of one of the key requirements on the country’s path toward European Union membership. The law will begin to be applied on October 4 and is fully aligned with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In addition to names and photographs, it now covers IP addresses, email addresses, and biometric data such as fingerprints, particularly when used for recording working hours.

One of the major novelties is the introduction of the “right to be forgotten,” which allows citizens to request the deletion of their data when there is no longer a legal basis for its processing. At a professional seminar in Mostar, Professor Marija Boban emphasized that “basic technical measures are no longer sufficient—every processing activity must have a clear legal basis, whether it is a statutory obligation, legitimate interest, or explicit consent.”

The law also sets strict penalties, ranging from 500 BAM (approx. EUR 250) for individuals to up to 40 million BAM or 4% of global annual turnover for companies, depending on the severity of the violation. It obliges organizations in both the public and private sectors to educate staff and appoint data protection officers. A common violation, such as sending newsletters without user consent, is now considered unlawful.

The Personal Data Protection Agency will be granted broader supervisory and sanctioning powers, while biometric data may not be processed without the explicit consent of employees.

Professor Boban stressed that “protection starts with education and clear procedures, and organizations that make an effort to comply may only receive warnings, while those that fail to act will inevitably face penalties.”

The law applies not only to digital systems but also to everyday practices, such as publishing employee information on company websites or the use of video surveillance, which must now be clearly marked and legally justified. Similar regulations have already been implemented in EU member states like Croatia and Slovenia, and they are now mandatory for institutions and businesses in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well. Experts underline that timely preparation is the best way to avoid heavy fines.

Fake TikTok Apps Spreading RatOn Android Banking Trojan Across Central Europe

A new strain of Android malware dubbed RatOn has evolved from a simple NFC relay tool into a sophisticated remote access trojan (RAT) with Automated Transfer System (ATS) features. First detected on July 5, 2025, RatOn has since undergone rapid development, with new variants identified as recently as late August.

According to Dutch cybersecurity firm ThreatFabric, RatOn merges overlay attacks, automated money transfers, and NFC relay functionality, making it one of the most powerful mobile banking threats to date. “The account takeover and automated transfer features have shown that the threat actor knows the internals of the targeted applications quite well,” ThreatFabric said in its report.

The malware targets cryptocurrency wallets including MetaMask, Trust, Phantom, and Blockchain.com, while also abusing George Česko, a Czech banking app, to execute fraudulent transfers. Beyond theft, RatOn can mimic ransomware attacks by locking devices and displaying extortion-style overlay pages.

Threat actors are distributing RatOn through fake Google Play Store pages disguised as “TikTok 18+,” tricking Czech and Slovakian-speaking users into downloading malicious dropper apps.

Once installed, the malware requests broad device permissions, installs secondary payloads, and ultimately delivers NFSkate malware to perform NFC relay attacks using a method known as “Ghost Tap.”

The trojan can also display fake ransom messages claiming users’ phones are locked for criminal activity and demanding $200 in cryptocurrency. Security experts believe this ploy is designed to scare victims into quickly opening crypto apps, allowing the malware to capture PIN codes and steal seed phrases.

Commands processed by RatOn include sending fake push notifications, locking devices, launching WhatsApp or Facebook, recording screens, and injecting malicious code into financial apps. ThreatFabric added that the campaign initially focused on Czech users, with Slovakia likely to be targeted next, possibly through local money mule networks.

Italy Tests New Surveillance System to Catch Drivers Overtaking on Solid Lines

According to Italian media, a new traffic surveillance system called the “sorpassometro” (officially SV3) has been introduced and is being tested in the country to detect illegal overtaking on road sections marked with solid lines. This device complements speed cameras and average-speed monitoring systems, but unlike them, it does not measure speed or average speed — instead, it specifically targets overtaking violations where such maneuvers are strictly prohibited.

The “sorpassometro” operates through a combination of road-embedded sensors and cameras. Once a violation is detected, the system automatically transmits the vehicle’s information together with video evidence to the authorities, who then issue a penalty notice to the vehicle’s owner. These devices are most often installed in areas with reduced visibility or near so-called blind curves, where risky overtaking can lead to serious consequences.

One of the first “sorpassometro” units was installed in early August in Calabria, in the province of Cosenza, along the SS18 highway, a road notorious for reckless driving maneuvers and frequent accidents. It records 15-second video clips as indisputable evidence of violations, enabling authorities to sanction reckless drivers more effectively and strengthen accident prevention. Penalties range from monetary fines and penalty points on the driver’s license to license suspension in more severe cases.
